2023 Lexus LS 500
The Lexus LS500 F Sport is the entry point to the LS range and was priced at $195,325 before on-road costs in the LS500h hybrid guise or $195,830 before on-road in the LS500 when tested.
An additional $5000 or more gets you the ultimate in Sports Luxury.
When the Lexus LS first came out in 1990, it offered a package the size of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class but at the price of a mid-range E-Class.
Those days are long gone, with the latest LS now occupying the same price bracket as its similarly sized German rival. It still has an edge on paper, however, in the power department – more on that later.
It should be noted that Lexus no longer offers two different LS lengths, as Germany still does. Your only option is a single body 5235mm long with a wheelbase of 3125mm.
In contrast, the A8 is 5172mm at a wheelbase of 2998mm, the A8L is 5302mm/3128mm, the S450 is 5180mm/3106mm, the S450L is 5290mm/3216mm, the 740i is 5120mm/3070mm and the 740Li is 5260mm/3210mm.
Having said that, the Lexus does offer more power and metal for your money than a similarly priced German car, although we’re not talking about Gulf War-era chasm value.
Best Lexus LS Ever!
As the flagship of the dazzling Lexus lineup, the LS Sedan sets the standard of luxury and refinement for the brand with its entry-level powertrain is a smooth-running twin-turbo V-6 but lacks the power of a V-8.
The powertrain upgrade is a hybrid setup that isn’t quite refined for a car in this high category. However, the cabin trim is first class, and the LS offers passengers comfort and polish.
Drivers may find the LS’s driving stance a bit of a drag, but the ride is comfortable and the interior is quiet.
Those major rivals like the Audi A8, BMW 7-series, and Mercedes-Benz S-class nailing the balance between comfort, luxury, and sport only serve to highlight the LS’ weak points.
Lexus’ flagship sedan is essentially unchanged but the base model can now be had with the optional Mark Levinson stereo system and some of the car’s standard driver assistance has been upgraded.
Haku’s unique metal leaf door trim is now available on cars equipped with Luxury and Executive packages.
2023 Lexus LS Interior
Flowing lines, intricately patterned fabrics, and rich leather upholstery fill the LS cabin. If you want to look your best, opt for real wood trim, artful glass inserts, and cleverly pleated door panel fabrics.
The passenger room is spacious enough for four adults. Adding a fifth person in the standard three-across rear seat would deny the passenger a true luxury experience, so we recommend opting for the optional bucket seat.
The back seat backrest is fixed, so that large cargo items may not easily fit into the LS. The trunk, however, for the LS500 and the larger hybrid models, holds six carry-on luggage each.
Both the Audi A8 and Genesis G90 accommodate the same amount of luggage.
All LS models come with Amazon Alexa, Apple CarPlay capabilities, navigation, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, all controlled via the new 12.3-inch touchscreen.
That means the fussy touchpad on the center console is no longer the only way to adjust vehicle settings, change audio sources, or set destinations in navigation menus.
The system also recognizes some voice commands. That said, is it too much to ask for physical buttons for things like seat heating? Lexus apparently thought so.
To activate this feature, the user must switch to the screen.
Lexus LS 2022 Release Date And Price
The official valuation has not been reported. However, the Lexus LS 2022 is an active model starting at $73,495 and comes with a goal when equipped with back-wheel drive. All-wheel drive costs $2,945 and has an MSRP of $76,440. This is before any production line options, which can make the vehicle more valuable.
We believe that the LS 500 will have many updates, so we expect a significant cost increase. Ask for an authority to determine when it will be noticeably available. After our investigation, the bargains on active LS 460 are now more reasonable after a push for deals in late 2022.

Exterior Styling
Lexus
The styling of the LS takes on a modern approach with class and elegance. The full-size sedan exudes style and power gracefully. Starting at the front of the LS, a huge Spindle Grille is present, which is actually an older design compared to new Lexus vehicles like the Lexus RX and NX crossovers. Depending on which trim you order, the standard or the F-Sport trim, you get a different design for the grille. We recommend the standard trim as this makes for the most elegant LS. The F-Sport trim adds a black mesh grille with larger air vents in the bumper. To us, the F-Sport trim styling in the front looks a little bit forced.
The standard model has a silver trim to the grille, which we think sets the proper look for luxury. Depending on the trim, the grille also houses a large standard radar sensor and an optional camera for the Teammate drivers assistance system. We love the headlights on the LS. They’re a triple-beam design with individual jewels for the lamps. They also house the corporate DRL design in the lights, which look elegant and polished.
Around the side of the LS, you see huge doors with large mirrors, something that isn’t always present in this class. We appreciate the large mirrors. If you order the Teammate system, you get another camera in the front fender. The windows are large on all doors, again, not something always found in this class of vehicle, but it’s definitely welcome. The rear quarter window reminds us of an Audi in a way, not every vehicle these days has that window and it certainly is a nice touch.
Lexus
In the rear, large tail lamps with integrated “L” designs inside them continue the Lexus “L” look on this sedan. The trunk lid is small, which is typical for this class. Although you’d expect large trunks in this class of vehicle, you’d be surprised to find a small one here. That’s because of the reclining rear seats. It makes sense to have a small trunk lid on the LS. Below the lid and bumper are two integrated exhaust tips that are polished in chrome, they look great.
Another note-worthy design element is the chrome piece that extends from the bottom of the doors to the rear bumper. It adds a perception of length which in turn adds grace to the design. Wheels range from 19 inches, which have a rather plain design to gorgeous 20-inch chrome wheels with a turbine design. The F-sport trim gets darker finished alloys that look sporty and aggressive. We 100 percent recommend the 20-inch chrome wheels. If you’re looking for a sporty-looking luxury sedan, the F-Sport is for you. However, if you’re a more traditional buyer looking for a good old luxury sedan, stick with the standard models.

Safety and Driver-Assistance
The LS delivers the Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 suite of driver-assistance features as standard; semi-autonomous features are available. These include standard adaptive cruise control with lane-centering assist, automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and more. Its safety systems, happily, did not encroach, nag or annoy.Your sticker may vary; my trim’s MSRP was $78,035, but with different trims and options you’ll top $100,000.
Conclusion: Anyone buying a Lexus sedan for its looks, inner swank and luxury flavor will find what they need in the LS. For unbridled enthusiasm, however, have a look at what BMW and Mercedes-Benz are offering in the same ballpark.
2023 Lexus LS Review
The 2023 flagship Lexus LS 500 is reportedly not going to be beaten in the tech bet by its cheaper showroom counterparts for a long time.
Japanese outlet Creative Trend reports from dealer sources that the Lexus LS will receive various updates this year, with an expected October 2022 launch in Japan.
Most notably, the car’s aging infotainment system will reportedly be replaced with a new system featured in the updated UX and new NX and LX.
In addition to a fresh look, the new Lexus Interface features over-the-air updates and greater support for voice commands.
It’s unclear whether the touchscreen will increase in size. The current LS has a 12.3-inch display, but a larger 14-inch unit can be found in the new NX.
The LS will reportedly be the next Lexus to deliver the much-maligned Remote Touch trackpad.
It’s unclear what will fill its space on the center console. The updated UX 2023 now has heated and ventilated seats and heated steering wheel controls in this place, and the updated ES will reportedly follow suit.
Lexus will reportedly upgrade the LS surround-view camera system, with a transparent display plus a “wide front view system”.
As part of a series of updates for 2021, Lexus revamped the LS suspension to improve ride quality.
Lexus engineers are reported to be further improving ride quality by updating the “mounting member part of the rear suspension”, according to the Creative Trends report.
The report doesn’t mention any cosmetic changes beyond some of Lexus’ recent badge updates.
While the LS will reportedly not replace its rear L badge with a spaced Lexus wordmark like the new NX and LX, it will reportedly lose the Lexus wordmark at the bottom of the boot lid.
Like other Lexus model updates, the LS500h will also reportedly lose the blue highlights on its badge and will get rid of the side skirt-mounted hybrid badge.
Like basically everything else in this fairly low volume segment, the LS lives in the shadow of its Australian rival Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
Fresh from a complete redesign, the S-Class sits at 74 sales year-to-date. Lexus has sold eight LS sedans this year, a lineball with the soon to be updated Audi A8 but behind the BMW 7 Series (23) and Porsche Panamera (21).
2023 Lexus LS Performance And Capability
Lexus
As one of the first Toyota models to get an engine from the Toyota Dynamic Force Engine family, the LS was a pioneer of modern engine technology. Although in past, we’ve touched upon the four-cylinder Toyota Dynamic Force Engines, the LS gets a V-6 version of the Dynamic Force engine family. The LS features a twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V-6. The hybrid LS gets the older GR V-6 engine, which is actually larger than the turbo engine, at 3.5 liters. No matter which engine you choose, you’re getting an extremely advanced powertrain.
We’re going to focus on the 3.4-liter twin-turbo engine in this guide, as it’s the better option of the two, and offers the most performance. With the 3.4-liter engine, expect 0-60 mph times in the mid-four-second range (4.6 seconds), which is class competitive for upgrade engines. However, it’s worth taking note that both Lexus and Toyota are generally conservative with their 0-60 times, and their vehicles are often faster than their numbers might suggest. Most German rivals should do 0-60 mph in about the same time or a little less with their upgraded engines.
Lexus
However, the twin-turbo V-6 engine is standard on the LS, and aside from the hybrid engine, it’s the only engine available. The 3.4-liter produces a good amount of power for the displacement, 416 horsepower to be exact. That’s a good number for the class, and the torque figure resides at a strong 442 pound-feet. If you’re interested in the hybrid LS, you’ll have to make do with much less power and a slower 0-60 mph time.
The hybrid LS makes 354 horsepower and as with Toyota hybrids, there’s no official torque figure. Expect a 0-60 time in the hybrid of 5.2 seconds. That 0-60 time is just a hair faster than something like a V-6 Toyota Camry… which is why we want to recommend the turbocharged non-hybrid LS. The top speed with either powertrain is limited to 136 MPH.
As with this class of vehicle, All-wheel drive (AWD) is expected to be available, and on the LS, it’s an option. RWD is the standard configuration, with AWD available on all turbocharged models. We recommend the AWD system to help put the power down and provide a more seamless power delivery. AWD doesn’t hurt the fuel economy much either. With RWD and the 3.4-liter turbo, expect combined ratings at 22. Drop that number by one MPG for AWD models. The hybrid gets 25 MPG combined with standard AWD.

Engine and Power
Most sedans of this type are equipped with V-8s but here in the F-Sport trim, we had a twin-turbo 3.4 litre V-6 delivering 416 horsepower. Despite those healthy-looking numbers, it was a tame experience start to finish. If for some reason I had to floor it from a dead stop, there was quite a gap between the mash and the blast-off, as if the engine was asking “What do you want me to do again?”
2023 Lexus LS 500 F-Sport
Lexus
Its 10-speed automatic transmission was smooth and quiet, and its road manners were polite, but my need for speed was not slaked. Corners were cornered, quick stops weren’t a problem and steering was satisfactory. Mileage was in the neighborhood of 28 combined city/highway MPG for our trim.
Lexus LS History
The Lexus LS was introduced in 1989 as the brand’s flagship model. The LS was originally built on the Toyota Crown platform, and it was powered by a 3.0L V6 engine. The first generation LS featured rear-wheel drive and a five-speed automatic transmission. In 1991, the 2021 Lexus LS 500 received a mild facelift and gained a 4.0L V8 engine option.
Four-wheel drive was also introduced as an option for the LS in 1991. The second generation LS debuted in 1995 and it was now based on the Toyota Celsior platform. The second-gen LS retained the rear-wheel drive layout, but it gained a six-speed automatic transmission. In 1998, Lexus introduced the third generation LS, which featured a new front-engine/rear-wheel drive layout.
Tech
They’re calling it “the most connected LS ever,” and they’re leading with an available Drive Connect trial and/or subscription. Its Intelligent Assistant lets you use everyday casual speech to control most in-car functions – in theory. By simply saying “Hey Lexus,” you can adjust cabin temperature, add navigation points, change audio selections and more.
2023 Lexus LS 500 F-Sport
Lexus
You can play music through Spotify and Pandora, and send messages with WhatsApp. An attractive 24-inch full-color Head-Up Display projects key information like speed, current gear and RPM onto the windshield. It’s also one of the first to connect with available Pedestrian Alert and Front Cross-Traffic Alert. The “performance-inspired” digital tachometer in the F-Sport (my tester) was a nice dab of edge.
2023 Lexus LS Engine
The standard engine in the LS is a twin-turbocharged 3.4 liter V-6 that makes a smooth 416 horsepower. It sounds smooth and powerful under heavy throttle but is quiet while driving.
A 10-speed automatic handles gearshifts. Performance was more than adequate for the car’s mission of luxury, but the V-8-powered BMW 7-series and Mercedes-Benz S-class variants proved faster on the test track.
The model badge LS500h features a hybrid powertrain that uses a 3.5-liter V-6 and two electric motors to make 354 horsepower.
While the standard twin-turbo V-6 operates smoothly, the hybrid setup feels neither subtle nor luxurious at all.
The engine sounds husky and rugged, and the transmission—a combination of a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and a regular four-speed automatic—steps through the preset gear ratios with all the crunch of soggy cornflakes.
Lexus LS Design
When it comes to the design of the Lexus LS, there is no doubt that this vehicle was meant to turn heads. The sleek lines and aggressive stance of the LS are impossible to miss, and the attention to detail is evident in every aspect of the design. From the front grille to the rear spoiler, everything about this car screams luxury and performance.
Inside, the Lexus LS is just as stunning as it is on the outside. The cockpit is designed with the driver in mind, with all of the controls and displays within easy reach. The seats are comfortable and supportive, making for a relaxed driving experience. And despite its large size, the LS feels surprisingly nimble on the road.

Fuel economy is good for a large car, with the standard Lexus LS 500 getting an EPA-estimated 19 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. The hybrid model gets slightly better gas mileage, at 30 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway.

Interior Quality And Technology
Lexus
The interior of the LS is top-notch in material quality and fit and finish. Expect genuine leather everywhere and gorgeous wood trim on nearly every surface. That wood trim has several different finishes and colors, and there’s even a Kiriko Glass option to replace the wood. F-Sport trims get a healthy dose of aluminum accents. No matter which interior color, wood, glass, or aluminum you choose, you’re getting a very posh and elegant interior that in our opinion is one of the best-looking interiors in the class.
The seats in the LS are large chairs that are extremely inviting. Optional 28-way power seats with massaging and ottoman functions are available and are highly recommended. The rear seats are just as comfortable and spacious as those of the front. Option for the executive package, and you also get 22-way power rear seats with massage and ottoman functions. Typical for this class. We recommend the executive package for the proper luxury car feel.
Lexus
Technology in the LS is a little outdated. While it does have wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the screens are small and look out of place, compared to competing vehicles. However, we aren’t going to knock the LS too much for this as this is a relatively old vehicle design, and five years ago, this was perfectly acceptable.
The interior of the LS is a stunning and serene place to spend time. It exudes the highest level of Japanese quality and design. And with features like Shiatsu massage functions and Kiriko Glass trim, the LS is an exemplary place to spend time. As stated before, fit and finish is class-leading.

Lexus LS 2022 Redesign
Exterior Design
The Lexus LS 2022 general appearance increases the smooth, low-threw appeal of the LC Coupe. The active LS 460 is 0.6 inches lower. Because of the increased use of aluminum and ultra-high tensile steel, the auto weighs more than 200 pounds less than it did before. Although the front shaft grille is somewhat similar to other Lexus models, there are many unusual touches to the vehicle’s design. You may notice six side windows. In addition, the front and back entryway glasses have been split into two. To conform to the new profile, the moonroof of your vehicle will also be an external slide configuration.
2022 Lexus LS Exterior
Interior Design
Drivers will enjoy a more calm driving experience inside the lodge due to dynamic commotion-canceling innovation. The Lexus LS 2022 will also offer a more comfortable ride thanks to an air suspension that raises and lowers the vehicle. This allows drivers to feel more welcome.
2022 Lexus LS Interior
The automaker’s Safety System + suite driver assistance innovation is what makes the 2022 LS exceptional insecurity. The auto’s discretionary Advanced Safety Package will provide person-on-foot identification and the unique ability to avoid impacts while maintaining a similar route. In addition, you will be able to view the entire range of assistance elements, such as versatile voyage control. Programmable crisis braking can provide crash relief, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
2023 Lexus LS Price
We’d stick with the standard twin-turbocharged V-6 engine and rear-wheel drive if only to spare the funds for the LS’s coolest feature options.
We opted for the Luxury package which is expensive but worth it as it adds heated and cool front and rear seats with semi-aniline leather upholstery with 28-way power-adjustable front seats with massage.
Equipped with a rear center console with touchscreen controls for climate, audio, and seat functions. Then four-zone automatic climate control and electric blinds at the rear.
Optionally adjustable air suspension, 20-inch wheels, a 360-degree camera system, real wood interior trim, and a heated wood and leather steering wheel all add to the Luxury package.
This pushed the price of the LS500 up $17,000, but it’s still cheaper than the base Mercedes-Benz S-class.
Lexus LS 2022 Engine
The engine’s most important news is the addition of a twin-turbo, 3.5-liter V6 engine. This is in response to the automaker’s involvement in Formula 1 racing. The machine will produce 415 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque. This is a significant improvement on the previous 386 HP. The V8 engine of the active LS 460 has 367 lb-ft. Lexus claims that the Lexus LS 2022 will reach 60 mph in 4.5 seconds using the back-wheel drive.
2022 Lexus LS Engine
A 10-speed program transmission is also new, which is a first for Lexus. The Lexus LS came before this with an 8-speed frame. Lexus claims that the gearbox is designed to deliver shifting speeds comparable to double grasp transmissions. However, the efficiency figures are not yet known.
