Infotainment: 13/15
One of the best things about the 2023 UX250h is its upgraded infotainment system. In previous years, a non-touchable screen sat far away from the diver and was controlled by a frustrating trackpad interface. Designed for Japanese drivers who input Kanji, American users always found it frustrating and imprecise. As a result, the system is replaced for 2023 with new touchscreens and a helpful voice assistant.
The standard setup uses an 8.0-inch touchscreen with navigation, AM, FM and SiriusXM satellite radio as well as wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. Bluetooth, four USB ports and a wi-fi hotspot are all standard. Speak out “Hey Lexus” and the digital assistant is there to answer your questions.
There’s a 12.3-inch multimedia touchscreen available as an extra-cost ($1,405) option on UX250h Premium that also includes a ten-speaker Lexus premium sound system. It’s standard equipment on F SPORT Handling. Other available tech includes wireless charging ($75) and a head-up display ($900).
With only 17.1 cubic-feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, the UX’s hold is below average for its class. Lexus
Small Engine For A Small Package
The 2023 Lexus UX 250h comes with a small 2.0-liter inline-4 engine. The engine works together with the Lexus Hybrid Drive. This is a high output, permanent-magnet electric-drive motor that assists in both fuel efficiency and performance. At low speeds, the UX 250h is all electric. This changes once you drive your foot into the throttle pedal, which is when the internal combustion engine kicks on relatively seamlessly, and you have both the engine and the electric motor pushing you forward (or backwards if you’re in reverse). Our loner had the all-wheel drive system, which Lexus rates at 39 mpg of combined city and highway driving. The engine works together with an electronically-controlled continuously variable transmission. The hybrid engine package delivers 181 horsepower and 133 lb-ft of torque. With the car weighing roughly 3,600-pounds, we have to wonder how these numbers translate into real-world driving. We took the UX for a week-long drive to find out.
Performance: 7/15
Moving 3,600 pounds with only 181 horsepower is asking a lot. The Lexus UX250h is only saved from dead last place among its peers in the zero-to-60 Grand Prix thanks to the base-model Audi Q3. The Q3 is 300 pounds heavier and has just 184 horsepower, so while the Lexus makes the run in 8.4 seconds, the base Audi needs 8.6. Base models of the Mercedes-Benz GLA (221 horsepower) and the BMW X2 (241 horsepower) get it done in 6.6 and 6.4 seconds, respectively—a difference you can feel.Widening the gap, both the Audi and Mercedes can be had with optional engines. The Audi Q3 S line Premium and Premium Plus boost the horsepower to 228 and drop zero-to-60 times down to seven seconds flat, while Mercedes offers AMG GLA 35 and AMG GLA 45 models with 302 and 382 horsepower respectively.
A standing start to sixty in the GLA 35 is just 5.2 seconds and in the GLA 45, it’s a muscle-car-like 4.4. While the Audi’s hotter variant is priced less than upper trim levels of the Lexus, the Mercedes-AMG models start out at $50,000 and go up from there. Mazda’s CX-30 Turbo ($36,675) tops out just above the UX’s starting price but hits 60 mph in 5.8 seconds. The UX250h, the GLA250 and the X2 can all be had in either front-wheel drive or AWD (the Q3 is AWD only), but all of these vehicles are strictly on-pavement machines. All are so low to the ground that only Mercedes quotes ground clearance figures, and its 5.3 inches is really about three inches shy of the minimum threshold for off-roading.
2022 Lexus UX Preview
The Lexus UX 2022 is an uncommon subcompact luxury crossover, but, despite its hatchback-like proportions, it’s also a classy and very sporty offering. Its small size and lower price tag place it below the Lexus NX as the company’s smallest crossover.
In fact, the UX is the smallest model in the Lexus showroom This means limited cargo capacity and passenger space compared to its competitors, but its low center of gravity contributes to impressive athleticism that helps make the UX a pleasure to ride.
Unfortunately, the standard four-cylinder engine and the available hybrid powertrain both have poky acceleration and produce a rough sound. Even so, the UX 2022 has several standard features and a charming interior that makes it an attractive, albeit small, alternative to the BMW X1 class and Mercedes-Benz GLA class alternatives.
For 2022, Lexus is making some improvements to the regular UX200 and UX250h hybrid. The final benefit of a new adjustable rear cargo board that increases cargo capacity from 17 cubic feet to 22 cubic feet. All models now come standard with blind-spot monitoring and rear traffic alerts.
Fans of Autumn Shimmer and Silver Lining Metallic will be disappointed to hear that both paint colors are no longer available Lexus also says it has improved the accelerator response on the UX250h.
Efficient powertrain
The UX 250h’s powertrain is unchanged, delivering excellent efficiency and refined performance with fourth-generation Lexus hybrid electric technology; the 2.0-litre system develops 181bhp/135kW.
Following its launch in 2019, the Lexus UX rapidly became our best-selling model in Europe, with its urban twist on the luxury crossover theme resonating with more than 50,000 new car buyers. In order to make the hybrid Lexus UX 250h more alluring than ever, a number of exterior and interior refinements have been applied for the 2022 model year.

2022 Lexus UX SUV
As for Lexus, the luxury brand is planning a 2022 facelift of the subcompact UX crossover for 2022, the 2022 anniversary design of the mid-size RX for 2022 to make it a “three lines that are better executed,” and a 2023 launch date for the full-size GX. new.
The biggest moves will be made with the compact NX and the full-size LX, with the former slated to get a 2.5L plug-in-hybrid powertrain with a 40-mile electric range when redesigned in fall 2022, and the last to represent a “big departure” with content that is much fancier when it’s released in 2022.
We think the UX250h hybrid is the one to get because of the standard all-wheel-drive system and better fuel economy in the city; We’ll be using the F Sport version which features a sportier suspension more supportive front seats and a slick-looking cluster gauge – among other enhancements.
From the two packages available, we will choose the Premium option which includes a heated front seat, rain-sensing windshield wipers, improved interior materials, and a sunroof. Finally, we recommend adding a head-up display, a heated steering wheel, a power liftgate, and wireless charging.

2022 Lexus UX Interior
The angular and sharp exterior design carries the interior. The entire dashboard tilts slightly towards the driver, making the infotainment screen easier to see and the buttons on the center console easier to reach. The tiered center console structure, the infotainment display tucked into the dashboard, and sweeping lines make the current UX look and feel like a luxury SUV. As a carryover model, the Lexus UX 2022 will share the same interior design as the current model.
On top of the standard 7-inch screen, the UX currently comes with a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Wi-Fi hot spot, four USB ports, six audio speakers, and Bluetooth.
Optional features include a 10.3-inch screen, navigation, an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, eight audio speakers, and wireless smartphone charging. These features will continue to be available for the Lexus UX 2022.
Lexus offers two different powertrains to the UX if you include the UX Hybrid. We expect this engine to be available for the 2022 model year. The standard engine on the UX is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that makes 169 horsepower. The UX Hybrid comes with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors for a combined output of 181 hp. Both engines are paired with a CVT and direct power to the front wheels.
Standard safety features on the UX today include rear traffic alerts, blind-spot monitoring, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane guarding assistance, traffic sign recognition, lane departure alerts, and assistance. automatic high beam.
The UX did well in crash tests, earning an overall five-star safety rating from the NHTSA and being named the IIHS ‘Top Safety Pick. These ratings and features should apply to the Lexus UX 2022.
On the inside, Lexus ensures passengers know that this is a luxury vehicle thanks to an attractive layout and luxurious materials. It also offers many standard features which include dual-zone climate control and a power-adjustable front seat.
The experience can be enhanced with options such as heated and ventilated front seats, head-up displays, and cooler materials. Although the rear seats are far from spacious, they are not as narrow as one might expect.
Unfortunately, the cargo area behind the seats is quite small and even smaller on the hybrid model. We managed to fit four carry-on cases in there on the regular UX, but we were able to fit three additional carry-on luggage on the back of the BMW X1.
Each UX has an infotainment system preloaded with Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa compatibility, a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot, and four USB ports. The small Lexus can also be upgraded with a variety of options that include a larger 10.3-inch center screen, built-in navigation, wireless charging, and an eight-speaker premium audio system. While we appreciate this amount of content infotainment systems are often frustrating to operate with unintuitive touchpad controllers and other illogical controls.
Style & Design: 7/10
The mild refresh of the UX250h gives it a slightly more muscular and purposeful appearance, with some creases and angles replacing curves. It’s an improvement and the UX’s sloping roofline does make it look sporty, but the proportions of the vehicle itself, longer than the competition but shorter of wheelbase, make it look somewhat stubby.
The interior is handsome and well-finished with top-quality materials, and the new screens look better than the old ones. Everything feels put together with the typical Lexus precision, but it doesn’t necessarily feel luxurious.
From some angles the UX’s short wheelbase and long overhangs make it look stubby. From others, it has a faintly “coupe crossover” look. It is, at least, quite distinctively a Lexus. Lexus
A Fun Little Car With Some Shortcomings
Photo bu Bassem Girgis
The theme of the hatchback continues behind the wheel of the 2023 Lexus UX 250h. It feels nimble enough, but it still has some SUV characteristics in terms of body roll. Acceleration isn’t bad, which is a surprise given the small displacement engine and low horsepower and torque outputs. The electric motor gives you immediate responses and pretty decent acceleration. The CVT isn’t as boring as many other cars. Instead, the paddle shifters make for quite the fun drive with this extremely smooth transmission. Passengers in the rear seat never stopped complaining, proving that this vehicle makes for the perfect daily-driver, but only if you drive it alone or with a passenger. Perhaps having a family of young children wouldn’t make the lack of room so obvious, but if you have teenagers or more than one friend, this is not for you. If you do enjoy the solo drives, however, the Lexus UX 250h is a pretty fun car.
Classy Design And Nimble Chassis
Lexus has done a great job with their entire lineup’s design, with small improvements for 2023. The only problem is, most of them look the same. This isn’t necessary a bad thing. The UX has the large grille Lexus is so famously known for, as well as the sharp headlights that make for a fierce front-end. Follow the hard edges all the way to the rear, and you have a beautiful taillight that connects both the left and right side together. What you can’t unsee, however, is that the UX 250h looks like a hatchback. It seriously should be almost advertised as such. It has some inspiration (visually) from the Lexus CT, which was actually loved by many. The hatchback found a home in the aftermarket scene and became a highly-upgradable car. The UX feels this way. However, it doesn’t necessary drive like a hatch. So, naturally it finds itself in an awkward position between a hatch and an SUV, without the nimbleness of the hatch, or the functionality of an SUV.
Introduction of new F Sport Design grade to UX 250h
The F Sport Design grade is a new addition to the 2023 Lexus UX 250h range, making powerful F Sport exterior styling accessible to more customers.
Its road presence is enhanced with the F Sport spindle grille, featuring a Lexus L-motif mesh pattern, finished in black with a chrome surround for the lower section that accentuates the car’s planted stance. The same pattern is featured in the enlarged bezels housing the fog lights and cornering lights in the F Sport front bumper, with contrasting chrome L-shaped surrounds. The rear bumper also has an F Sport-specific design, with a jet black roof spoiler and moulding details around the light clusters. The 18-inch F Sport alloy wheels have a 10-spoke design and a dark metallic finish.
Other F Sport Design standard specification details include synthetic leather seat upholstery, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic air conditioning with Lexus’ Nanoe-X air quality system, reversing camera, automatic wipers, LED headlights with Automatic High Beam, chrome roof rails, black wheel arch mouldings and Lexus “F” badging.
2022 Lexus UX Engine
The Lexus UX is available with a gas-powered or hybrid powertrain paired with a continuously variable automatic (CVT) transmission. However, only the UX250h hybrid offers an all-wheel-drive; The regular UX200 is only for the front drive.
The latter uses a 169-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The 2019 UX we tested took 8.5 seconds to get to 60 mph, and the engine sounded unrefined at high revs.
Whereas the 2019 UX250h hybrid version we tested produces 181 horsepower, the same acceleration doesn’t impress it. Thankfully, they both have great steering nuances and the quiet smoothness is captivating enough to help make up for the lack of speed.
The F Sport package features performance-oriented enhancements such as a sport-tuned suspension, 18-inch wheels in run-flat tires, and exclusive interior and exterior designations.
Revisions to UX 250h F Sport
The revised F Sport specification makes Adaptive Variable Suspension and front and rear performance rods standard features, elements that contribute to the model’s sharper handling and chassis response and smoother ride quality on all road surfaces. The AVS’s control system has been adjusted so there is a seamless shift to high damping force when conditions require, so there is a less abrupt change in vehicle behaviour. Tuning of the system has also reduced high and mid-frequency vibration.
The steering feel has been improved with a new rigid joint between the top of the steering gearbox mount and the suspension member. In line with this extra rigidity, the shock absorber damping force has been appropriately adjusted for optimum performance.

Is the 2023 Lexus UX Worth It? Which version Is the Best Value?
Base price for the front-drive UX250h is $35,925 (including a $1,075 destination fee), and AWD is a $1,400 option across all models. The Premium trim starts at $38,385, F SPORT Design at $38,385 and F SPORT Handling begins at $43,455.While the new F SPORT Handling trim saves it from being a purely cosmetic package like F SPORT Design, there’s just not enough fun to be had with the 181 horsepower and CVT to make the paddle shifters and extra drive modes usable or worth the expense.
That said, our pick from the UX250h lineup would be the Premium model, which adds nice features (heated and ventilated front seats, power rear door with kick sensor, rain-sensing wipers) as standard and opens the option book for the 12.3-inch touchscreen and Lexus Premium audio system, which are unavailable on the base model. Whether to go with front-wheel drive or AWD depends on the climate in which you do most of your driving. Because the UX250h is so low to the ground and has such long front and rear overhangs, AWD’s usefulness is really limited to winter road conditions—and mild ones at that.
Safety & Driver Assistance Tech: 14/15
The Lexus UX250h is an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick and it gets five-star overall crash ratings from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA). That’s a better performance than the Audi Q3 (IIHS: Good, NHTSA: five-star). The BMW X2 has only been rated by the IIHS (Good), and not yet by NHTSA. The Mercedes-Benz GLA has not been rated by either organization but gets 5-star ratings from EURO NCAP and the Australian safety organization ANCAP. Mazda’s CX-30 earns a Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS and five stars from NHTSA.
The UX’s comprehensive suite of crash-avoiding and potentially life-saving tech is standard, which does set it apart from its German rivals, which frequently make such gear extra-cost.
The UX is about the same overall length as most of its competitors, but its diminutive wheelbase means it has about three inches less rear legroom on average than they do. Mike Hagerty
2022 Lexus UX Specs
Today Lexus has the dashing LX as its flagship SUV, but many crossover buyers may not like it if they want something a little softer on the edges. Luckily Lexus has a fix to come.
Car and Driver report that the Lexus LQ 2022 will be the brand’s flagship SUV that is slimmer and more car-like. LQ is previewed by the LF-1 Limitless concept you see here. It will likely share many parts with the LS, including a twin-turbocharged 416-hp V6 and an optional 354-hp hybrid powertrain.
An interesting version is the F performance version, which will be powered by a new twin-turbocharged V8 with around 600 horsepower.
We also learned some news about another crossover in the Lexus lineup, the next generation NX. Lexus recently trademarked the name NX 450+, which will likely be used by the NX plug-in hybrid, the brand’s first PHEV.

2023 Lexus UX: new multimedia systems
The revised 2023 Lexus UX 250h benefits from Lexus’s new multimedia systems, giving a faster, more intuitive response, focused on the human-centred operation and increased functionality.
According to equipment grade, models are fitted with either eight or 12.3-inch displays, with touchscreen technology replacing the previous trackpad control. The new displays have been moved forward on the instrument panel, bringing them closer to the driver for comfortable operation. They present crisper graphics – in high definition on the 12.3-inch screen. Significantly increased computing power means command responses are quicker, while “always connected” cloud-based navigation is provided as standard, giving access to real-time road and traffic information for easier journey planning. The 12.3-inch system has embedded navigation, so operation is available in areas where cloud connection is unavailable.
The system’s new voice recognition system includes the option of using the “Hey Lexus” onboard assistant. This makes for easier use of voice commands to make phone calls, operate the audio and climate control and search the net. It can link to cloud-based information, so, for example, it can be asked about nearby fuel prices and other local information. It is programmed to understand more conversational terms and is better able to recognise commands when there is background noise – the audio doesn’t have to be muted and the microphones can identify whether it is the driver or front passenger speaking.
Smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay (wireless connection) or Android Auto (wired connection) is provided as standard and, for complete convenience, updates to the multimedia system software can be delivered over the air using the car’s DCM (data communication module). Connectivity options include a USB-A port in the centre console box for playback of high-resolution sound sources and two USB-C ports for device charging on the console. The multimedia system can save the personal preference profiles of up to three people, customising the multimedia, audio and navigation settings.
The space on the centre console where the multimedia trackpad was located is now home to controls for the heated front seats or, where these are not specified, a handy small storage cubby. The console also features an illuminated tray in front of the air conditioning control panel, with space to hold a large smartphone.
True to Lexus’s famous omotenashi hospitality, owners will be able to use the Lexus Link smartphone app to lock or unlock the doors or operate the air conditioning system remotely, so that the cabin can be cooled or warmed before they set off on a journey.
