2023 Mini Cooper Countryman Engine
The Countryman family includes three different powertrains. The base engine is a 134-hp turbocharged three-cylinder that lacks the power to move the 3300-plus pound crossover with any authority.
The Cooper S has four more powerful 189-hp turbos but still doesn’t deliver the giddyap we crave. The plug-in-hybrid model is the fastest non-JCW Countryman we’ve tested, but it’s also the most expensive.
The non-hybrid front-drive version features a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission; all-wheel-drive models receive an eight-speed automatic. The Countryman’s stoic disposition wasn’t a bad thing; it’s just different from the attitude of the other Mini, which is not kidding.
It’s worth noting that none of our test vehicles featured adjustable Mini dampers, which might help compensate for the sometimes harsh ride quality we experienced.
The plug-in hybrid brake pedal has a long-dead spot at the top of its ride, which takes some getting used to.
Verdict – is the MINI Countryman a good car?
The MINI Countryman SUV is a great family car that offers the brand’s fashionable and desirable image in a slightly more practical package. Despite its larger size, the Countryman even manages to capture a little of the MINI Hatch’s fun-to-drive character. Its petrol engines are fairly economical, although diesel fans may want to consider the plug-in hybrid version, as the option was discontinued in 2020. The looks could be a little polarising for some buyers and the cost of optional extras can make the Countryman an expensive buy, but it’s definitely worth your attention if you’re looking for a small and stylish SUV.
2023 Mini Cooper Countryman Interior
The Countryman’s interior features signature Mini design elements, such as the infotainment system mounted in a large circular housing in the center of the dashboard and toggle switches to control the interior lights, ignition, and standard stop-start system.
There’s a lot to like about the Countryman’s cabin, which is assembled from high-quality materials and offers ample passenger space. Rear-seat riders will be comfortable on long trips, but you’ll have to pay for the Comfort plan if you want a center armrest.
The cabin has a number of storage corners, providing ample space to store personal items; however, the Countryman offers less cargo space than some of its smaller competitors. The Mini makes up for it with a fair amount of underfloor storage space, but choosing an available spare tire takes up most of that.
Inside every Mini Cooper, 2022 is a refreshed dashboard design, simplifying layout through repositioned air vents and updated surfaces,
Then add the Piano Black plastic layer that wraps around the standard 8.8-inch touchscreen, with Apple CarPlay compatibility.
There are also several new ambient lighting options, as well as a fresh Light Checked fabric seating option, and -for the first time ever – a heated leather steering wheel.
The Countryman comes standard with a 6.5-inch screen for the infotainment system, and an 8.8-inch display with navigation and Apple CarPlay capabilities is available. Buyers can control the latter via touch input, a console-mounted dial, and voice commands.

Mini рассекретил новый Countryman
(TwinPower Turbo).
DSC (Dynamic Stability Control).

2023 Mini Cooper Countryman News
MINI USA today announced US availability and pricing for the new MINI Countryman Boardwalk Edition 2022. The new MINI Countryman Boardwalk comes with an excellent level of equipment and appeals to those looking to make a statement wherever they go.
The car will be produced in limited numbers, according to the British automaker, but we have not been given exact figures for the world market.
The MINI Countryman Boardwalk Edition, Cooper S variant, has a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $38,365 plus an additional Destination & Handling Fee of $850. The Cooper S ALL4 variant is also available for $40,365 MSRP.
This limited edition Countryman went into production in March this year. It will be available at US dealers in April 2021.
For its unique features, the MINI Countryman Boardwalk edition comes in a very special color, dubbed Deep Laguna metallic, a color that was previously only reserved for the MINI Convertible Sidewalk edition model.
The blue finish creates a nice contrast with the black details all around the car, from the mirror caps to the roof.
The Boardwalk Edition also comes with matching black 18-inch Pin Spoke alloy wheels and Piano Black Exterior Trim.
Moving on to the interior, the Boardwalk Edition includes Leather Cross Punch Black interior trim along with the Touchscreen Navigation Package on the console. The Boardwalk Edition also features door frames, roof and dashboard graphics, and a special Boardwalk side scuttle.
The MINI Countryman Boardwalk Edition comes with several optional interior and exterior features, including LED Fog Lights and Headlights, Comfort Access Keyless Entry, and auto-dimming collapsible exterior mirrors on the interior and exterior mirrors.
Other standards and premium features are also included in this limited edition Countryman.
The MINI Countryman Boardwalk Edition will be available at 116 dealerships across the US in April 2021.
2024 MINI Countryman Engines and Transmissions
There are no clean-sheet designs in the internal combustion world these days and there’s no exception here. Every petrol powered engine is a revision of an existing one. So things will look familiar but numbers will rise slightly. Based on what we know about the evolved three and four liter family of engines from BMW, we should see something close to the following:
- The 1.5 three cylinder which will be rated at 140 to 170 hp.
- 2.0 four cylinder with varying tunes; 200 hp to 240 depending on FWD or AWD.
- JCW branded 2.0 four cylinder with 330 hp and a mild hybrid system
- All petrol engines will get a 48 volt mild hybrid system and will be mated to a revised 7-speed dual clutch with an all new gear selector design.
- The manual transmission will be eliminated in all models.
2023 Mini Cooper Countryman Price
We recommend the Cooper S for its four-cylinder engine, which provides an additional 55 horsepower over the standard three-cylinder. Each S has 18-inch wheels, a panoramic sunroof, rear parking sensors, and supportive front seats.
Those who want the added traction of all-wheel drive can set it up for $2000. We’ll opt for our Countryman with the mid-level Signature Trim package for the 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, and passive entry.
The Driver Assistance package, which features adaptive cruise control and a heads-up display, is also on our list.
The following prices are still speculation, there is no official information for the price.
- Cooper $30,350
- Oxford Edition $33,900
- Cooper S $35,850
- Boardwalk Edition $40,115
- Cooper SE $44,650
MINI Countryman models, specs and alternatives
The MINI Countryman SUV caused a stir when it was first released, becoming a trailblazing SUV offering from MINI and flying in the face of the brand’s original small-car ethos. Despite the Countryman being the biggest departure from the spirit of the original MINI, it proved a sales success and became a fixture in the brand’s lineup. The current MINI Countryman is nearing the end of its life, with a replacement due in 2024 that’s set to add an electric variant to the lineup for the first time.
MINI Countryman rivals include the Audi Q2, BMW X1 and Mercedes GLA on the premium end, but buyers may even consider it against other smaller, cheaper SUVs such as the Kia Niro, Renault Captur or Peugeot 2008. The plug-in hybrid version may even tempt buyers considering the Toyota C-HR or even larger PHEVs such as the Ford Kuga.
While its design isn’t for everyone, the MINI Countryman’s larger, more prominent grille, bumpers and roof rails give it a more upright SUV stance than the standard MINI Hatch, but it’s still unmistakably MINI. The brand’s trademark rounded bodywork, large headlights and distinctive grille shape make this possible, while chrome touches, high-quality interior materials and technology give it an upmarket feel.
18
Reflecting the MINI Countryman’s upmarket feel is its upmarket price. It can seem competitive at first glance, but you’ll need to consider the cost of options which can drive costs up considerably – match a BMW X1 in terms of equipment and you’ll find prices are similar. Buyers are paying for MINI’s image first and foremost, and prices of the Countryman can easily end up breaching those of the class of larger, less-premium SUVs above it. However, the MINI Countryman’s desirable status means it retains more of its value than rivals, so you could find you pay less on a favourable finance agreement.
2023 Mini Cooper Countryman Preview
Parked next to the British brand’s quirky original tiny car, the 2022 Mini Cooper Countryman looks colossal. It’s definitely more of a crossover than a compact car, but that’s exactly what the market wants right now.
The Countryman also provides enough personalization with a choice of decals and paint color combinations. It’s a shame we weren’t impressed with its powertrain, which ranges from a weak 134-hp three-cylinder to a fast, albeit expensive, plug-in hybrid.
The biggest mini drives are better than some of the other subcompact luxury vehicles but aren’t as agile as the regular Mini Cooper or Clubman wagons. Those willing to forgive the Countryman for its stiff ride will appreciate its comfortable backseat, but they miss the Mini experience completely.
For 2022, the Countryman received minor changes. All models now come standard with LED headlights, lane departure warnings, and a free 12-month SiriusXM satellite radio subscription.
There’s a new Boardwalk Edition, which is based on the 189-hp Cooper S variant and is available with front or all-wheel drive.
You’ll be able to see this limited edition Countryman with its unique Deep Laguna metallic paint and contrasting black elements, including 18-inch alloy wheels. The black leather interior also contains model-exclusive details.
2024 MINI Countryman – Sizing Up
Based on these photos and our sources, the all new 2024 MINI Countryman will be about 203 mm (almost 8 inches) larger – specifically in the rear. While MINI chose to modify the UKL chassis to shorten the rear giving the current Countryman slightly more MINI-like proportions, our sources tell us that this next generation car will more closely follow the BMW X1 in overall size. This will allow for a larger cargo area and more rear legroom.
What about weight? Our sources are telling us that MINI will make use of advanced chassis design and plenty of new aluminum components to reduce the weight gain we’ll see. We can get an idea of weight by looking at the new BMW X1 which has a 3,750 lbs curb weight. That only up 24 lbs despite being marginally larger and being offered with more standard equipment. Given this we’d expect the next generation Countryman All4 will be close to the current car’s 3,726 lbs curb weight.
U25 2024 Countryman will grow in width and height as well as length.
The All Electric 2024 MINI Countryman
Yes it’s coming and it’s powerful. The FAAR platform was designed from the ground up to accommodate a battery pack and electric motor as part of the brand’s plans to transition all products over the next decade. Again the BMW X1 (in this case the iX1) gives us a clue. Assuming MINI will be leveraging the same technical layout (which we’ve heard is the plan), we should expect the electric Countryman to have a peak output is 308 horsepower and 364 pound-feet of torque. Potentially branded as a JCW, the power comes from a modest 64.7-kWh t-shaped battery pack that produces 266 miles of range using the WLTP testing protocol. That would likely translate into something around 240 miles using the EPA testing. The iX1 supports DC fast-charging at up to 130 kW, which can charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in only 29 minutes.
2023 Mini Cooper Countryman Exterior
The headlights – which give the car a googly eye look – the taillights, mirror caps, door handles, gas cap, badge, exhaust, and grille, all get a dark look for 2022.
And, if you like the chrome finish, don’t worry. It is still used as the standard for the 2022 lineup.
The best model of John Cooper Works is the only hatchback version that does not get a grille insert with new body color.
Instead, the performance model gets a more dramatic-looking hexagonal grille, joined by two larger bottom vents.
At the rear, a slightly larger spoiler sits above the roof, paired with new ventilation and a body-color treatment at the bottom of the bumper.
2024 MINI Countryman – New Technology and Autonomous Features
Based on the underlying Android Auto technical framework, MINI is introducing a massive circular display that will be the literal and figurative centerpiece of the brand’s tech moving forward.
Looking at the spy photos of the interior the second think you notice (after the giant screen of course) is the lack of switch gear and a very different console design than what we’re used to seeing. Of course the switchgear is there but it’s been re-routed into a temporary space where cupholders will ultimately be.
Beyond the massive screen there’s a lot to take in here. The switches and knobs (which are actually marked) are also identical to what we saw in the electric hatch leak meaning that MINI is moving to a consistent user experience across all models no matter where they’re produced or what platform they’re on. That’s an essential move if MINI wants that digital experience to be a selling point of the brand.
Final, non-camouflaged version as seen in the U25 electric MINI Cooper
The gear selector (which will be almost identical to BMWs) is actually not here in production form but will be a small lever or toggle where the white plastic is in the top photo. Also gone is the iDrive multi-function controller. In it’s place will be a digital experience that’s more touch-based and (we’re told) easier to use.
We expect MINI to eventually rollout an optional Level 2 autonomous driving features for all of the brand’s next generation cars. Level 2 allows for the car to use adaptive cruise as well as follow the clearly marked roads with hands on the wheel. Keep in mind this isn’t just a lane keeping function but technology that will follow the road as it curves. This is optional on most BMWs currently.
But what will be really exciting is L2+. While it’s unclear if we’ll see this at launch, we do eventually expect Level 2+ to be part of the G60 product plans. The system will likely be identical to BMW’s new L2+ system which allows for hands-free driving up to 81 mph an hour (130 KPH) making it massively more helpful for the majority of drivers and likely to be used much more. While MINI drivers are more likely to want to drive their cars, it’s hard to argue with a robot taking over duties on long, straight highway drives.
2023 Mini Countryman : Interior
The Mini Cooper Countryman has a high-end wardrobe full of high-quality items. And the Mini in contrast, with round gauges and custom features such as leather and ambient light. The quality is excellent, the seat material sounds high quality, while the combination of lightweight plastic touches on the dash and the fabric cut on the door pull raises ambiance. The black trim on the dashboard sounds solid and looks marketable again. Inside, things are less controversial, the standard MINI design, which touches more than one style but is as clean as a large round display and chrome toggle switches, while the facelift introduces a new five-inch digital metal binnacle as a standard for all models. There’s also a new Piano Black cut on the dashboard and door cards, as well as two new skin colors.
2023 Mini Countryman All4
Every Mini 2023 Countryman works with an 8.8-inches touchscreen infotainment system. Navigation and Apple CarPlay are not standard, but both are available as part of the Touchscreen Navigation package, adding a wireless charging pad and a 5.0-inch instrument cluster display. That package is typical for the Signatures and Iconic episodes of Cooper S, Cooper SE, and John Cooper Works separately.
2023 Mini Countryman : Engine
The base engine is a 134-hp 3-cylinder turbo with no power to move the crossover by any power. The Mini 2023 Cooper Countryman S has a turbo-four with 189 horsepower. This engine is very efficient, although it is better described as more satisfying than brawny. For more power, see the plug-in-hybrid SE or the John Cooper Works (JCW) performance-focused model. The PHEV takes the basic engine and pairs it with an electric motor, increasing horsepower to 221 and reducing the acceleration time by about three seconds. JCW is very strong in the team. It has a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, which delivers 301 power, and speeds f0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds.
2023 Mini Countryman Interior |
2023 Mini Countryman JCW |
The 2023 Countryman gets an EPA rating at 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. Those are the middle-class standards. Models with all-wheel drive are very fuel-efficient: JCW returns fuel savings of 23/30 mpg. In addition, the Mini uses premium fuel. The plug-in-hybrid SE gains 73 MPG-equivalent or 29 mpg for integrated city/road driving. It also has an electrical distance of only 18 miles. Using a 240-volt outlet can charge the battery for up to two hours.
2023 Mini Countryman : Safety
Although it comes out with standard and automated emergency braking, the irony is that Countryman does not have any other standard driver assistance technology, namely blind-spot monitoring, and lane-keeping. For more information on Countryman crash test results, visit the websites of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The key of 2023 Mini Countryman security features includes a Rearview camera, Lane departure warning, Head-up display, rain-sensing wipers, Parallel park assist, Forward collision warning, Rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control.
2023 Mini Cooper Countryman Specs
The standard Cooper Hardtop uses the same 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine as last year, producing 134 horsepower (100 kilowatts) and 162 pound-feet (220 newton-meters) of torque.
It is paired with a standard six-speed manual gearbox or an optional seven-speed dual-clutch.
The Cooper S remains slightly more powerful, producing 189 hp (141 kW) and 207 lb-ft (281 nm) of torque from the same turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine as last year.
And, predictably, the John Cooper Works remains the most powerful model ever, offering 228 hp (170 kW) and 236 lb-ft (320 nm) of torque.
The electric Cooper SE also continues without a powertrain update. The tiny EV still offers 184 hp (137 kW) and 270 lb-ft (366 nm) of torque, with an estimated range of 110 miles (177 kilometers).
With a few visual updates, the Mini Cooper doesn’t go up too much for the 2022 model. The three standard trims – Cooper – Classic, Signature, and Iconic – are only $500 more than last year.
The same thing happened to the Cooper S Classic and John Cooper Works Classic. However, the electric Cooper SE did not experience any gains at all.
