What Is New Compared To 2022: Design Updates And New Pricing Of The 2023 Nissan Leaf

Via: Nissan News

Now, we listed all the important features of the 2023 Nissan Leaf, but you may want to know how this model differs from the previous version, primarily because of the price. The new Leaf is $470 up compared to the last year, which is not a significant price raise — but still, why choose this over the 2022 model?

Via: Nissan News

The 2023 Nissan Leaf now sports a new grille, headlights, and bumper. The differences may not be that noticeable at first glance, but they are definitely there. Nissan also claims the aerodynamics got boosted with new body elements, but we’ll have to take the brand for its word since we haven’t had a chance to test that. In other aspects, you’ll notice the Nissan badge gets illuminated, which is a nice addition but not overly exciting.

2023 Nissan LEAF specs and features

2023 Nissan LEAF | Nissan

The 2023 Nissan LEAF S has a 147 kW electric motor and a 40 kWh lithium-ion battery. Nissan says this system generates 147 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque. The LEAF S has a range of up to 149 miles on a full charge.

The 2023 Nissan LEAF SV Plus is more powerful with a 160 kW motor and 60 kWh battery. This unit puts out 214 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque with a range of up to 212 miles. Both powertrains have three driving modes: normal, Eco-mode (increases regenerative braking and reduces HVAC power use), and B-mode (engages regenerative braking more aggressively).

The LEAF S gives you plenty of features for a base trim. Cruise control, high beam assist, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment screen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a four-speaker sounds system, and a rear view monitor.

Safety systems like forward collision warning, rear automatic braking, blind-spot warning and intervention, and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard for the LEAF EV. If you fold down the rear seats, the cargo volume reaches 30 cubic feet. Each battery pack comes with a warranty for eight years or 100,000 miles for defects and the same length and duration for excessive capacity loss.

Bumping up to the SV Plus trim does include more perks. The parking brake is electric instead of a foot pedal and uses intelligent cruise control. The SV Plus also has the NissanConnect system. NissanConnect includes navigation with 3D imagery, SiriusXM Radio, Travel, and Traffic, and remote telematics showing battery charge information. The Nissan ProPILOT Assist system is also included and gives the LEAF EV models driver-assist features for conditions like highway traffic and tight spaces.

The rear seats offer plenty of legroom and shoulder room, while the cargo area provides ample space for storing items. The Nissan Leaf also comes with many standard features, including a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, adaptive cruise control, and plenty of USB ports for charging devices.

The “Zero-Emission” badge on the steering wheel highlights the Leaf’s electric powertrain, and the car also features a suite of advanced safety systems, such as automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and traffic-sign recognition. Other standard features include a heated steering wheel, and a wireless charging pad for smartphones.

Overall, the interior of the Nissan Leaf is well appointed and offers plenty of style and comfort. The range of standard features and advanced safety systems make it a great choice for those wanting to make the switch to an electric vehicle. With plenty of practicality and a luxurious feel, the Leaf is sure to please a wide range of drivers.

Nissan Leaf Review 2023

Abhishek Katariya says

The Nissan Leaf has gained a huge stature for itself as the largest selling full electric car around the globe. Currently, in its second generation, the Nissan Leaf has evolved into a much sharper and futuristic looking car which actually matches its ‘ahead of time’ underpinnings. The Nissan Leaf is available in Singapore in a single full-spec variant, with the sole color option of white available for it.

Rapid charging enables longer journeys by adding as much range as possible in the shortest amount of time. Charging power will decrease significantly after 80% state-of-charge has been reached. A typical rapid charge therefore rarely exceeds 80% SoC. The rapid charge rate of an EV depends on the charger used and the maximum charging power the EV can handle. The table below shows all details for rapid charging the Nissan Leaf.

  • Max. Power: maximum power provided by charge point
  • Avg. Power: average power provided by charge point over a session from 10% to 80%
  • Time: time needed to charge from 10% to 80%
  • Rate: average charging speed over a session from 10% to 80%

Cargo Space & Storage: 11/15

The Leaf has 23.6 cubic-feet of cargo space behind the second row and 30 cubic-feet when it’s folded. Be warned, however, that the second row doesn’t fold entirely flat, leaving a ridge that can make it harder to shove or slide heavier items forward. So while it feels like a big hatchback, with the seats down it’s not as spacious.

It’s a mixed bag with the competition. The Bolt EV provides only 16.6 cubes behind the second row, but expands to 57 cubes when folded. The Kona is similar, coming in at 19.2 and 45.8 cubes, respectively. The Niro plays a similar game with a similar 22.8 cubic-feet seat up, but then an expansive 63.7 cubes when folded down.

The Leaf’s hatch opening is semicircular, which can make loading heavy or larger square items more difficult. The included Level 1 and 2 charging cables are stored in a bag that attaches to the driver’s side of the cargo area for easy access.

Sadly the Leaf doesn’t have a front trunk, or frunk, but the charging ports are on the front end. That’s different.

Nissan Leaf (2018 – 2023) –

Range, Energy Use & Charging: 11/15

With a slightly smaller battery pack on the SV Plus trim (62 kWh drops to 60) and the small 40 kWh pack on the base S, the combined average for the 2023 Leaf is an improved 110 MPGe. The SV Plus is 109 MPGe combined, while the lighter S is 111 MPGe.

Within the competitive set the Leaf is the weakest, but not by much. It burns the most energy per 100 miles (31 kWh compared to the Bolt EV’s 28 kWh).

Getting the most miles per kW in the Leaf requires utilizing the Eco-Mode, which tailors throttle responses and software for maximum efficiency. There’s also a one-pedal driving mode (B-mode) to extract as much regenerative braking energy as possible.

The SV Plus range is 212 miles while the base is only 149, according to the EPA. These are some of the lowest numbers for EVs, especially for this size sedan. The Bolt EV outshines here too with 259 miles—on the entry level version.

When it comes to charging, the Leaf is weirdly clinging onto the CHAdeMO charging system. Amidst the widespread shift to Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS), the optional charging system feels even more dated (it sits next to a normal Level 1 or 2 charge port). It will soon be obsolete. The 6.6 kW onboard charger can recharge on a Level 2 system in about 11.5 hours. For quick charging, Nissan says the Plus needs an hour to get to 80%, but only 40 minutes for the S.

Safety & Driver Assistance Tech: 12/15

The Leaf takes safety seriously with 10 standard airbags, including side-impact head and lower bags for the rear passengers. Nissan’s Safety Shield 360 suite is standard and includes automatic emergency braking, reverse automatic emergency braking, blind spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning and lane keeping assistance. The SV Plus brings adaptive cruise control. The ProPilot Assist advanced driving system is standard on the SV Plus, which makes highway driving that much easier.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gives the Leaf a five-star rating. In  Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) testing, the Leaf earned “Good” scores in moderate overlap front, side and head restraint and seat tests. Of note, the IIHS gave it a “Marginal” rating for its child seat anchors as it deemed they were challenging to access as they are mounted so deep in the cushions.

Like most EVs in this segment, the rear seats are best for children, groceries or quick trips, but the front is surprisingly pleasant. Nissan

Nissan debuts 2023 LEAF featuring revised exterior and streamlined model lineup; on-sale this summer

NEW YORK – For more than a decade, Nissan LEAF has represented the company’s commitment to bringing all-electric mobility to the masses. Nissan continues that focus with the 2023 LEAF, with a refreshed exterior design, new aluminum-alloy wheels and a revised lineup to deliver maximum value for EV customers.

The updated LEAF makes its debut at the 2022 New York International Auto Show prior to its summer on-sale date.

The 2023 LEAF will be available in two grade levels, LEAF S and LEAF SV PLUS. The tailored model lineup reflects the most customer-requested features and technologies, offered at the best value.

The updates to the 2023 LEAF include an enhanced front end appearance, with a refreshed front grille, bumper molding and headlights that feature a new black inner finisher. The Nissan badge is now illuminated and has been updated to the brand’s new design identity.

In addition, the shapes of the tire deflectors at all four corners, rear under diffuser and rear spoiler have all been modified for better aerodynamics.

The 2023 LEAF SV PLUS also comes standard with an aggressive new 5-spoke 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheel.

Inside, changes for the 2023 model year include the new Nissan badge on the steering wheel and a new start-up video on the instrument panel screen. Black cloth is standard on both trims, with gray finishers for LEAF S and gloss black finishers for LEAF SV Plus.

In 2022, Nissan lowered the MSRP1 of the LEAF to provide the best value to customers. The 2023 LEAF S and SV PLUS will continue this popular positioning, with both models maintaining similar starting prices for 2023. Qualified purchasers may also be eligible for a potential federal tax credit of up to $7,5002.

The 2023 LEAF S is equipped with a 40-kWh lithium-ion battery and 110-kW electric motor that delivers 147 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque. The 2023 Nissan LEAF SV PLUS features a 60-kWh lithium-ion battery and a powerful 160-kW electric motor that produces 214 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque. EPA range estimates for both models will be available closer to launch, however range is expected to be similar to 2022 models3.

Standard on LEAF SV PLUS is ProPILOT Assist4, a hands-on driver assist system that combines Nissan’s Intelligent Cruise Control and steering assist technologies. ProPILOT Assist also includes a stop and hold function that can bring the vehicle to a full stop, hold in place and can bring the vehicle back up to speed when traffic starts moving again.

Every 2023 Nissan LEAF is offered with a limited lithium-ion battery warranty5 covering defects in materials or workmanship for eight years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first, for the battery pack. Nissan also provides a limited warranty against battery capacity loss below nine bars of capacity as shown on the vehicle’s battery capacity level gauge for the first eight years or 100,000 miles for all models.

Comfort & Room: 12/15

The Leaf is quite accommodating despite its reputation. Comfortable and supportive enough, the front seats, especially in the top trim, are adjustable and spacious. It’s good visibility despite the hatch and the back feels open—the hatchback might help here. Front legroom measures 42.1 inches in front compared to 44.3 for the Bolt EV, 41.5 for the Niro and Kona.

Rear seat legroom clocks in at 33.5 inches, and again the competition is tight. The Bolt EV impresses with 36.01 inches, the Kona offers 33.4 inches and the Niro is the best with 36.9 inches. So while it’s not the best back seat it’s highly functional and works well for children and shorter trips.

Is the 2023 Nissan LEAF worth it?

The LEAF EV is part of a packed EV segment. Competitors include the Chevrolet Bolt EV, Hyundai Kona Electric, and Kia Niro EV.

The 2023 Nissan LEAF S is an affordable option for EV buyers. The LEAF EV is still eligible for the $7,500 federal EV tax credit with a low price tag, to begin with. But KBB states that it is only for the first 200,000 models sold, and Nissan could reach that mark this summer.

All of the competitors have a better range on a full charge: Chevrolet reports the Bolt is rated for 259 miles, Hyundai says the Kona Electric can go 258 miles, and Kia states the Niro EV can make it 239 miles.

If you’re looking for an affordable EV for shorter trips to work, school, errands, etc., the LEAF EV is a great option. But for activities that require better range, you may find better options than the 2023 Nissan LEAF on the market.
