While the Edge may be showing its age in some areas, it still ranks near the top of the pack on cargo space. The Edge has 39.2 cubic-feet of cargo area behind the rear seats while the Blazer has a scant 30.5 and the Santa Fe 36.4. The Honda Passport wins this contest with 41.2 cubic-feet of cargo space aft of the rear seats.
With the rear seats folded down the Edge offers 73.4 cubic-feet with 72.1 for the Hyundai and 64.2 for the Blazer. Here again, the Honda trumps with 77.7 cubes of cargo capacity with the rear seats folded down.
Passenger comfort and room may be good in the Edge, but it falls short of more modern, innovative models in terms of small storage areas. Edge buyers only get a glovebox, center console and door pockets to stash their gear.

2022 Edge Preview
The second-generation Ford Edge arrived in the 2015 model year, but the crossover underwent a refresh in 2019 and has had several lineup updates in recent years.
In 2019, the performance-oriented ST trim arrives, and the 2020 model brings the ST-Line trim which includes an ST look without the strong powertrain. Despite its years, we expect the 2022 Edge 2021 to be the built-in model.
Visually, the Ford Edge has remained the same since its 2019 refresh, which includes new headlights, grille, front and rear bumpers, taillights, and more. With this relatively recent update, we hope the design remains the same in Edge 2021.
Inside, the 2022 Edge will be updated from Ford SYNC3 to SYNC4 which features a new 12-inch infotainment screen.
Under the hood, the Ford Edge 2021 will likely carry the same powertrain options as the current model. It will include a standard 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 250 horsepower.
In the ST trim, it will use a 2.7-liter V6 twin-turbocharged engine with 335 hp. All current Edge models come standard with an eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive, and we hope nothing changes here. All-wheel drive will also remain an option.
The 2020 Ford Edge is IIHS’s Top Safety Choice thanks to its “Good” all over the crash test, optional “Acceptable” LED projector headlamps,
And standard automatic emergency braking which is rated “Superior” in collision prevention between vehicles and vehicle collision avoidance- to “advanced” pedestrian.
Other standard safety equipment on 2022 Edge currently includes blind-spot monitors and active lane controls. We hope these ratings and features stay the same in Edge 2021.
2022 Ford Edge Plus
Ford will be launching the 2022 Edge SUV soon and, according to rumors, it won’t be getting a major overhaul like some of its other siblings in the lineup.
What’s even worse is the fact that the Edge and Lincoln Nautilus will most likely retire from the automaker’s ranks after 2023. The 2022 Ford Edge will most likely be equipped with a turbocharged inline 4-cylinder engine from 2.0 liters paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. . What is confirmed is that AWD will be available for the 2022 model year.
The 2022 Ford Edge is expected to retail for between $33,000 and $44,000. If rumors are to be believed that you might see a three-row Ford Edge alongside the two-row Plus, the Ford Edge will be available in 4 trim levels and the sportier Edge ST with a 335 hp turbo V6 engine.
That said, the tough-looking SUV faces stiff competition from competitors such as the Jeep rand Cherokee, Nissan Murano and Mazda CX9.

2022 Edge Redesign Not on the Cards Yet
New 2022 Ford Edge is a very nice-looking SUV with a familiar design language. Moreover, Blue Oval also offers some premium touches, even in the base trim level. New Edge could arrive as a slightly wider vehicle which should improve the stability and the interior room. The front part looks modern and attractive, thanks to the latest modifications on the headlights and the grille. To the sides, Edge offers new 18-inch alloy wheels that are optional.
The wheels are very sporty and are a perfect fit. If you want even more sportiness, Blue Oval offers the famous ST variant. This version adds various gloss-black exterior trims and darkened features. On top of that, Edge ST rides on larger 20-inch alloy rims and it hosts dual exhaust outlets. The 2022MY will introduce new exterior colors, Lithium Gray and Carbonized Gray.
New Touchscreen Option
The 2022 Ford Edge is known for its modern and comfortable interior. The cabin uses a lot of soft-touch surfaces and premium materials. There will be room for five passengers across the two rows of seats. Cargo area is above average and a new model will be slightly wider, which will result in a more generous shoulder room. As we said, Edge SUV will now offer a bigger 12-inch infotainment touchscreen.
On top of that, Ford’s latest SYNC4 infotainment system is also on offer. New system will add even more amenities and features such as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay will be offered as standard. The manufacturer also plans to add more safety aids such as automated emergency braking and lane-keeping assist.

The Edge’s interior hasn’t changed markedly since the model was refreshed in 2015, so it’s beginning to look a little out of step with the times. But it still feels right on schedule. The Edge’s capacious cabin is still roomy and comfortable by class standards, both by the numbers and when you feel it in person. There are 42.6 inches of front legroom compared to the Santa Fe’s 44.1 and the Blazer’s 41.0. The Murano comes up short here with 40.5 inches of front legroom.
The Edge’s rear seat legroom of 40.6 inches falls short of the 41.7 inches in the Santa Fe and Sorento but bests the Blazer and Passport’s identical rear-seat legroom of 39.6 inches. The Edge shows well in areas of hip and shoulder room with 57.3 and 60.5 inches, respectively. The Honda Passport has the best shoulder room here at 61.9 inches and its 57.3 inches of hip room is only two-tenths of an inch less than the Ford. The Edge’s 40.3 inches of rear headroom tops all of its direct rivals, but the Passport comes closest with 40.0 inches.

Edge ST is the 2022 Edge ST-Line for SUV customers who prefer bold style while back prioritizing value over 2021 performance.
2022 Edge ST-Line features a unique ST-style grille with body-colored bumpers, paired with black beltline ST bottom sports finish, standard fog lamps, and signature LED lighting.

Edge ST remains the choice for customers who prioritize performance. Equipped with a specially tuned 2.7 liter EcoBoost that produces 335 horsepower and 380 lb.-ft. torque uses 93-octane fuel – the first SUV from Ford Performance equipped for dynamic handling.
This includes a 7-speed fast-shifting automatic transmission, standard all-wheel-drive with selectable traction control, available ST Performance Brake Package available, and an ST-tuned sports suspension and steering.
What’s New for the 2022 Ford Edge?
For 2022, Ford makes all-wheel drive standard on the Edge. In addition, Ford reports that two new colors called Flight Blue and Forged Green are available, and the automaker says it is offering new Black Appearance and Adventure packages for the 2022 Edge.
The Black Appearance package predictably installs black 19-inch alloy wheels, black badges, a black grille, black mirror caps, and black skid plates. But it comes with body-color bumpers. Meanwhile, the Adventure package adds Carbonized Gray 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, ActiveX leatherette, dark blue interior stitching, black mirror caps, black grille bars, and black roof rails.
Performance: 11/15
The Edge is not the freshest SUV on the market, but it still offers performance that’s more than competitive. A turbocharged, 250-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and eight-speed automatic transmission are standard on all Edge trim levels except the ST. This powertrain gives relatively athletic mid-7-second zero-to-60 times. The four-cylinder Blazer is similar, but some versions of the Sorento (which comes in gas, hybrid or plug-in hybrid variations) are considerably quicker.
The base 2.5-liter four-cylinder engines in the Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe don’t quite match the output of the Blazer or Edge; it clocks in at only 191 horsepower. Santa Fe and Blazer buyers can order more power by ticking the right option box and specifying Chevy’s 308-horsepower 3.6-liter V6 or Hyundai’s 281-horsepower turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder. Honda offers only one engine choice in the Passport, a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 rated at 280 horsepower with 262 lb-ft of torque.
With the Edge, you have to move all the way up to full-house ST trim for a higher-performance powertrain, while Blazer and Santa Fe buyers can opt for more powerful engines on several trim levels. The Chevy Blazer RS adopts a similarly sporty persona with blacked-out trim and red accents, but it’s not quite as aggressive as the Edge ST on the road.
At first glance, the Edge’s 335-horsepower turbo V6 doesn’t look much more powerful than the Blazer RS’s 308-horsepower non-turbocharged V6. But the Edge ST cranks out 380 lb-ft of torque— that’s fully 110 more than the Blazer RS. The Edge’s torque also comes on much lower in the power band, peaking at 3250 rpm. The Blazer’s engine is spinning at 5000 rpm before delivering its maximum torque of 270 lb-ft. Having ample torque available at lower engine speeds (usually) pays dividends in city driving and overall refinement. The Edge ST will sprint to 60 mph in about 6 seconds.
Regardless of powertrain, the Edge has a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 pounds when equipped with the Class II trailer tow package ($435, standard on ST). The Hyundai Santa Fe matches the Edge’s towing performance, but only when equipped with the optional turbocharged engine; the base non-turbo four-cylinder is rated to tow a scant 2,000 pounds. Four-cylinder Blazers can tow up to 3,500 pounds when equipped with a tow package and their V6 brethren will to 4,500 pounds while the Honda Passport is rated at a stout 5,000 with its tow package.
Power and Towing in the 2022 Ford Edge
The 2022 Ford Edge is equipped with a four-cylinder turbocharged engine offering 250 horsepower for an enjoyable drive. Ford focused on building this SUV in a way that provides good stability in corners and smooth ride no matter the road surface. Utilizing their AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control system, can improve vehicle handling for even the worst snow, ice, gravel, or rain-covered roads.
If you are towing trailers, toys, or anything else behind your Edge, the maximum towing capacity is 1,500 lbs. However, simply add on the Class II Trailer Tow Package and that can be increased to 3,500 lbs plus you then get the benefit of trailer sway control to detect the amount of sway of the trailer and automatically adjust the brake pressure or reduce engine torque to keep your trailer as secure as possible.
Exterior Features
You can tell the difference between the 2022 Ford Edge Titanium and ST from a ways away, thanks to their distinct exterior styling. The ST stands out the most, with its 20-inch wheels and exclusive exterior trim.
Both models are big on convenience, with upscale features like rain-sensing wipers and remote start to help you save time. The Titanium comes standard with the hands-free, foot-activated power liftgate, so you can simply drop supplies into the cargo hold. This hands-free liftgate is optional for the ST.

2022 Ford Edge ST
If 250 horsepower is not enough and you want to maximize the riding impression, then the ST package is going to amaze most buyers. In this case, engineers decided to go with a small V6 displacement of just 2.7-liters. Enhanced with the twin-turbo system, it can deliver 335 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque. All-wheel drive is standard and it gets power through an eight-speed automatic transmission. Still, the ST package includes paddle shifters for manual gearing.
This version is not all about the more potent engine. Engineers also tuned the suspension and steering for the 2022 Ford Edge ST. Plus, there are high-quality materials inside to increase the level of comfort. A special grille and a rear spoiler will make the SUV recognizable from the outside. The ST model will get a couple of new paintjobs. Currently, there are six colors available in the palette.
Other Trim Levels and Packages
SE, SEL and Titanium are other choices available for the Edge at the moment. But, the new 2022 YM will definitely introduce something to shake things up and make a market appearance more interesting. The SE version is there with 18-inch wheels and rain-sensing wipers as highlights of the package. Ford will probably revisit the infotainment system. A larger touchscreen display and Sync3 features are definitely going to be included. Previously, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were available on the SEL trim, but be ready to pick them with the entry-level model.
So, again, Ford will have to figure out how to improve the mid-range model. More safety options are always welcome. Parking sensors, lane departure warning and lane-keep assist are accessories that become part of the standard offer. The 2022 Ford Edge SEL will definitely bring upscale materials and dual-zone climate control. The high-end offer comes with the Titanium trim. Here, you will find all the most advanced systems and features the company has. For example, wireless charging, premium audio with extra speakers, and leather upholstery are standard.
Safety & Driver Assistance Tech: 11/15
The Edge earned a Top Safety Pick designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in 2022, but stricter standards in 2023 mean it did not repeat that achievement. It also earns a five-star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a rating that still stands.
All Edge trim levels are equipped with Co-Pilot 360, a package of driver-assist tech that includes automatic high beams, blind-spot warning, lane keeping assist, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking that includes pedestrian detection and reverse automatic braking. While this isn’t quite as much standard gear as seen at Honda and Nissan, this is a pretty comprehensive suite of active-safety gear and it works well.

Inside, both the 2022 Ford Edge Titanium and Edge ST are very swanky. They have a lot of features in common, starting with leather upholstery and a 12-speaker premium audio system.
