2023 honda ridgeline: redesign to include new hybrid powertrain

2023 Honda Ridgeline Engine

Mechanics have always been Honda’s thing and this pickup doesn’t disappoint either. Of course, 2023 Honda Ridgeline will continue with a well-known 3.5-liter V6, which puts out around 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. The engine is capable and also runs incredibly smoothly. The same can be said for the 9-speed automatic transmission, which shifts smoothly and on time.

Besides excellent refinement, this engine also offers decent fuel economy. You may count on about 18 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway, which is quite typical for the segment.

Some rumors also suggest a hybrid version of the pickup. However, we haven’t found any details about it. Also, the officials are still quiet, so you should take this with a big reserve.

Honda Ridgeline 2022 Engine

It is actually nevertheless not acknowledged which engine may specifically be devoted to Honda Ridgeline 2022. However, there are actually beautiful possibilities that it will probably be precisely the same engine as around the previous product, with some of the better specifics. If so, we must assume a 3.5-liter V6 petroleum motor utilizing 280 horsepower as well as 262 lb-ft connected with torque. Honda’s enthusiasts will understand precisely the same engine while on at the moment Pilot, and they can not really much from reality. Because the producer hinted, they are going not to make your tests in this particular industry. The greatest engine opponent is definitely the 2022 Toyota Tundra.

Honda Ridgeline 2022 Engine

What’s the Ridgeline like to drive?

The Ridgeline has without a doubt the smoothest ride and best on-road handling of any midsize pickup. It even has a torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system, which shunts power to each rear wheel to improve handling and traction. Basically, the Ridgeline drives more like a crossover than a body-on-frame truck – because that’s exactly what it is. The ride is a little firmer than a Pilot or Passport’s, but every Ridgeline is a very civilized pickup to drive.

There are, of course, downsides. Its 7.6 inches of ground clearance isn’t even high for a crossover, and although its all-wheel-drive system, off-road driving modes and HPD package upgrades make it surprisingly capable off the beaten path, it also can’t touch even the more basic versions of the Ranger and Tacoma. Its towing capacity of 5,000 pounds is also quite weak (the Ranger, Colorado/Canyon, Tacoma and Jeep Gladiator are all over 7,000), but its payload of 1,583 pounds is comparable to all but the best-in-class Ranger.

Action shot taken during the driver-side small overlap frontal crash test.

The dummy’s position in relation to the door frame, steering wheel, and instrument panel after the crash test indicates that the driver’s survival space was maintained well.

The frontal and side curtain airbags worked well together to keep the head from coming close to any stiff structure or outside objects that could cause injury.

The driver’s space was maintained well, and risk of injuries to the dummy’s legs and feet was low.

What are the Ridgeline interior and in-car technology like?

For better and for worse, the Ridgeline interior is copied and pasted from the Honda Pilot from the B-pillars forward. That means it’s not an especially attractive space, and certainly not one that screams «tough, fun truck!» Then again, it’s not as if the Ford Ranger or Chevy Colorado do that, either. That’s the «for worse» bit. For better, the Pilot interior offers exceptional small item storage, and that basically carries over to the Ridgeline unchanged. The roomy covered center bin is especially handy for keeping even sizable items away from prying eyes or from flying around the cabin.

Story continues

But now, back to the worse bit. The Pilot/Passport/Ridgeline’s infotainment system is the interior’s weakest attribute. Yes, it gained a volume knob last year, but that’s just correcting a misstep. It doesn’t change the missteps that remain: a convoluted menu structure, rudimentary navigation system (if so equipped) and lack of physical supporting buttons.

Exterior

On the outside, the new 2023 Honda Ridgeline Type R looks stylish as ever. It has a low ride height which is quite noticeable. After all, this is a racing model so don’t expect it to go off-roading and running over obstacles. It has rims that match the design idea, they come in black, 18 inches, and are lightweight. Side mirrors are colored differently from the exterior.

On the front, we have a huge front fascia that gives the Ridgeline a mean and aggressive look. It also lets enough air inside to keep the engine department cool. So you can press the pedal and go all out with your Honda pickup. The cargo bed is standard 5.5 feet. The hood is also specifically designed to be aerodynamic and decrease wind drag. All that while looking stylish.

2022 Honda Ridgeline Hybrid Design

The new unibody 2022 Honda Ridgeline Hybrid sports a beautiful design. Generally, as the base model, the hybrid one features an identical truck-like appearance. All versions come with a fully reworked front fascia, resulting in a bolder grille compared to the previous Pilot SUV-like version.

For 2022, Honda used more modern LED headlights and re-sculpted front fender flares. On the side, we can see that the manufacturer still keeps the attractive 18-inch wheels. At the rear, the design is nearly identical to the current with the new twin-exhaust setup. Besides, the hybrid model should also get appropriate badging on the back and side.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The lone powertrain is a 280-hp 3.5-liter V-6 that makes 262 pound-feet of torque and hooks up to a nine-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. The engine feels smooth, and throttle response is especially receptive when you call for hard acceleration. An untraditional pickup in many ways, the Ridgeline surprises from behind the wheel. On the road, it is well-mannered and feels extremely competent. Its coil-sprung independent rear suspension contributes to a carlike ride quality not available with the leaf-sprung, solid-axle setups used by the competition. Body lean in corners is minimal, and small bumps are barely noticeable. The electrically assisted steering feels appropriate. The Ridgeline’s braking performance stands out as its lone dynamic blemish. Its braking distance from 70 mph to zero is on the long side, and we thought the brake pedal felt soft and had too much travel during normal use.

How much power will the Ridgeline Type R have?

https://youtube.com/watch?v=VEMq3OgI7JU

You can’t upgrade a truck for racing without increasing engine power. That’s why the 2022 Honda Ridgeline Type R could gain more power. Rumors suggest that it will use the same 3.5-liter V6 engine that it currently has, only it will be retuned.

This engine provides 280-hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. The exact numbers haven’t been released, but it could pump out 400 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque. According to Edmunds, the 2021 Honda Ridgeline can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 7.2 seconds. This is fast for a midsize truck but a little lacking for a racer.

This increased amount of power could help the Ridgeline tow more than 5,000 lbs too. All-wheel-drive could come standard, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see a rear-wheel-drive variant for a sportier performance. Also, the VTEX system and direct-injection fuel system will be available.

Comfort & Room: 15/15

The Ridgeline’s interior is one of its class’s most spacious and comfortable cabins. The front seats are wide, deep and offer great support, and the back seat is the roomiest in its class. Honda did away with the traditional gear shift lever in favor of space-saving buttons, and the result is that the front cabin feels open and airy. Ergonomics are a Honda specialty, and the truck offers a driver-centric, comfortable ride.

Because of its unibody design, the Ridgeline’s ride is as quiet as it is comfortable. The truck also brings a decent degree of sound deadening and insulation that helps give it an isolated, luxurious feeling inside. Outward visibility is good. The Ridgeline is roomier and offers better interior storage than any of its conventional rivals. The back seat is more comfortable as well, as the Chevy Colorado and Toyota Tacoma have hard, unsupportive rear benches with cramped legroom, as do the Ranger and Nissan Frontier. Only the Gladiator offers a similarly-sized back seat, but it’s a bigger and more expensive truck overall and isn’t nearly as quiet or smooth on the road.

Cabin Layout

Unlike the regular model, the new 2022 Honda Ridgeline Hybrid will be more modern. Generally, this pickup truck offers an SUV-like cabin with several upgrades as part of the mid-cycle refresh. Honda introduced Ridgeline with refresh styling, and most importantly, they improved graphics on its 8-inch touchscreen.

If the 2022 Honda Ridgeline Hybrid report turns out to be true, this truck version will receive new trim inserts and new gauge cluster features. However, upper grades will add more premium touches, including leather upholstery, premium sound system, navigation, blind-spot monitoring, and so on.

Safety & Driver Assistance Tech: 12/15

Honda offers several standard and optional safety features for the Ridgeline, but the truck achieved mixed results in safety and crash testing. Automatic emergency braking, forward collision alerts, lane departure warnings, lane keep assist, and adaptive cruise control are standard. Blind spot monitoring becomes standard with the RTL trim.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awards the 2023 Ridgeline an overall five-star rating, the highest rating available.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) frequently takes issue with vehicle headlight design and illumination, and the Ridgeline lost points for inadequate high beams. The organization also noted that the truck’s car seat anchors (LATCH) were buried too deep in the seat and were hard to find. The middle back seat was tough to use with a car seat. Safety equipment is a strong point for the Ridgeline, but the Santa Cruz outperformed it in IIHS testing, earning a Top Safety Pick for 2022.

The Ridgeline has 37.6-inches of rear-seat legroom. The Hyundai Santa Cruz has 36.5, the Chevy Colorado 35.8 and the Toyota Tacoma 32.6. Honda

Honda Ridgeline 2022 Redesign

Exterior And Interior Design

Because the previous design was exciting for the broad viewers, Honda Ridgeline 2022 changed only older-designed particulars. Nonetheless, it really is, however, a vintage truck by using complicated and lengthy cubic vehicles, toned roof structure, and somewhat curved front-end. Trapezoidal decorative mesh grille finishes with curved slim lighting fixtures, split up on two by using a chromatic series more than it.

Honda Ridgeline 2022 Exterior

The underside of your fender has fascinating quality together with the plastic material safety and curved fog lamps in the stops, plus the plastic-type material range earlier mentioned it. A bit budget comes after the fishing line from the wheelbase, now lengthier and broader than around the previous version. On account of the Sophisticated Compatibility Technology body platform, the brand new version has increased outside look and far better-employed wheelbase.

As about some other different Hondas, an excellent Honda Ridgeline 2022 includes comfort and ease and modern-day cabin, yet without having some particulars which ruin the image of any energy truck. It really is nevertheless simple and easy friendly cottage, after some traditional toned dashboard and incredibly easy control buttons structure.

Honda Ridgeline 2022 Interior

There are actually no noticeable substantial-technology products and created displays, but the producer declared several upgrades in phrase regarding safety and luxury from the cabin. One and the only thing which may be reported is perhaps inadequate resources instead of numerous assets from the modernity in the cabin. The maker also stated that we ought to anticipate a little bit for a more extended time cabin.

2023 Honda Ridgeline Type R Engine Specs

Under the hood, we get a 3.5 liter V6 that gives 280 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque.

Another option is a 3.0-liter turbocharged engine with 355 horsepower and 355 pound-feet of torque.

The new 2023 Honda Ridgeline Type R will come with an all-wheel drive. It can haul up to 5000 pounds which is admirable.

Manual and automatic transmission is available. There might be a version for the off-roading environment with a taller ride height. It will be interesting to see if Honda decides to electrify their Ridgeline.

Hybrid systems are known for powerful and economic engines that give the petrol engine an extra boost. Also, all-electric trucks are possible and it would be interesting to see whether Honda decides to make one.

Its main competitor will be Ford Ranger Raptor, Hyundai Santa Cruz N line, GMC Canyon AT4X, and Jeep Gladiator Hercules.

Interior Dimensions

Interior dimensions are great for comparison on the comfort that is provided for your passengers, but it also helps you select the right interior accessories, such as seat covers and car seats.

2022 Honda Ridgeline Report

Honda hopes for a third-time charm for its fledgling pickup, the Ridgeline. For the 2022 model year, it gets a new truck-like outfit to accompany its innovative bed and many interior upgrades.

Most notable among the changes are the front end and profile which can actually earn a bit of respect from fellow truck owners.

The Ridgeline has run into a lot of trouble over the years (and your writers have indeed done its fair share) of buyers who feel the vehicle’s appearance shares too much in common with the Pilot SUV and, worse, the Minivan Odyssey. Oh, my horror.

The Ridgeline 2022 features an all-new A-pillar front. Design changes include a new hood with prominent strength protrusions (insert a rough joke here) and a new front fender that features a square nose and upright grille. The maw is ordered by LED headlamps and sits on top of the spacious side vents that direct air through the bumper for aerodynamic purposes.

A unique set of tires and wheels also increases the visual appeal, increases the track width by up to 20mm, and provides a wider feel. Honda says some of the rubber options available have more aggressive sidewall and shoulder tread views but all these seasons are a long way off from the likes of BFGoodrich KO2 or Firestone Destination M / T.

There are slight improvements to it, from an updated infotainment system with new graphics to new fabric seat inserts. The company is also careful to mention specifically the physical volume knob (thanks) plus various new gauges and console accents.

Under the hood is a 3.5L V6 engine that produces 280 hp and 262 lb.-ft of torque channeled into a nine-speed automatic transmission. The all-wheel-drive system can deliver up to 70 percent of engine torque to the rear of the Ridgeline. There are driving modes to choose from for snow, mud, and sand. The towing capacity reaches 5,000 lbs.

The latter underlines some of the sand kicks, as other midsize trucks like the Toyota Tacoma and Chevrolet Colorado can pull a maximum weight of 6,800 lbs and 7,700 lbs, respectively.

The new mugs can’t hurt, and Honda’s reputation for quality construction is excellent, so we’re sure the Ridgeline 2022 will continue to gain its share of customers.

Length, Width, Height of Honda Ridgeline

The Honda Ridgeline is a bit smaller than many other pickup trucks on the market. But it still has lots of features to make up for its small size. It still has 4 full-size doors to accommodate two rows of passengers making it a great option for families and those looking to carry extra passengers often.

The Ridgeline has overall dimensions of 210.2 inches in length, 78.6 inches in width, and 70.8 inches in height.

In feet, the Ridgeline is 17 ft 6.2 inches long, 6 ft 6.6 inches wide, and 5 ft 10.8 inches high.

The Ridgeline also has a wheelbase of 125.2 inches.

Cabin Appearance and Changes

On the inside, the forthcoming 2023 Honda Ridgeline pickup truck will keep all the same design cues from its predecessor. In general, there is no need for significant upgrades since the Ridgeline cabin is modern and spacious. This design is near the Pilot, featuring the truck-like steering wheel and plenty of technology.

The manufacturer offers as standard equipment keyless start, cloth upholstery, an 8-inch touchscreen, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. We expect safety ratings and features to remain the same, including automatic emergency braking, active lane control, and adaptive cruise control.

Interior

Everything starts from the interior. It has to represent the car and the design idea of the car. Since it is a type R badge, the 2023 Honda Ridgeline Type R will be on the sportier side. This is not all that uncommon for trucks as one might think. Other pickups carry certain badges that represent them being sport or racing tailor-made. We can assume that Type R means that there are going to be racing seats in the new 2023 Honda Ridgeline Type R.

Although we are not the biggest fans of these, since they are made for racing and not driving around, Honda is known for making proper and comfortable seating. Hopefully, they give enough attention to the lumbar support and cushioning. This would allow for comfortable rides, even on bumpy roads and for a prolonged time. We know how after a while in the seat, your back gets stiff. Well, Honda should alleviate that issue we hope. Contrast stitching and different material choices are available. This also adds some personalization options and is much sought after.

Dashboard

The instrument panel is lined with leather which looks stylish. There are a few buttons on the panel and quite a few on the steering wheel. Having buttons on the steering wheel helps with safety while driving since you don’t have to look away to change a setting. The infotainment system is just enough, allegedly 12 inches. This means that the back row of people can join in on the fun, and you can use it to change pretty much anything that is connected to a battery.

The dashboard is digital as well, this enables easier tracking of parameters. We are not sure about chrome or wooden accents around this cabin. After all, it is a sports truck, not a luxury truck. Connectivity is standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. We get Bluetooth and a Wi-Fi hotspot in the truck. Satellite navigation and other useful apps are present on the infotainment system.

Safety

Safety measures are present. We can expect standard features such as pedestrian detection, lane change alert, automatic braking, collision alert, and similar. Artificial intelligence like this helps save lives on the road. Also, hands-free driving is not confirmed, but we can see Honda implementing a system of their own. So far we know of SuperCruise by GM and BlueCruise by Ford. These programs allow drivers to unwind behind the wheel and enjoy the ride while the computer takes them to their destination.

However, no sleeping behind the steering wheel and it can only be used on certain pre-mapped roads.
