Cabin Changes

The upcoming 2022 Acura ILX is a 5-passenger sedan that will provide a luxurious design. Like before one of the highlights of this model is comfortable and well-bolstered front seats, excellent driving position, and vast customizations. We must also mention that ILX comes with impressive color choices that include Ebony, Espresso, and Ebony-and-Red on sporty ILX A-Spec variants.

Furthermore, we got information that base models will get a new infotainment system of an 8-inch screen. If you remember, this screen until now has been part of premium trim. Other standard features will include Apple or Android phones, a two-zone climate, a better audio system, and so on.

Interior: A decade-old styling but is quite comfortable

You will start to notice its aging design by stepping inside the cabin. Anyway, the chunky leather-wrapped steering wheel feels good while the side-mounted buttons are quite distracting to use while driving. The instrument console is not all-digital but there is a small display in the middle of the big speedo and tacho. The dashboard design is not too good, as you can expect from a car that has still been in the same generation since 2013. Moreover, the dashboard is mainly plastic made and extends onto the door panels including the center console. There are two infotainment screens which was a common trait for all the older Acuras. But the base trim comes with just one screen and that too is not touch-sensitive.

However, there are a few good things about the ILX’s interior and they would be the standard sunroof, heated front seats, and an eight-way power-adjustable driver seat. The cabin can fit up to five people but the rear row legroom is a big turn-down for ILX, not only the ILX but the segment, if I am to be precise. The front row has 38 inches of headroom and a sufficient 42.3 inches of legroom. The rear takes a hit on legroom with only 34 inches, making it suitable for under adults or just two average-height men. For city chores, the spaciousness wouldn’t be bothering much until the ILX is taken on to long highway drives.

The cabin is decently practical and has good space inside the glovebox, center console, and door pockets. The boot space is just 12.4 cubic-feet and if compared to the competition, the BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe is slightly ahead but the Mercedes-Benz A-Class has a very small 8.6 cubic-feet. There is no info about the new G70’s trunk space. A few of the interior standout features of the 2022 Acura ILX are as follows:

— Dual-zone automatic climate control.

— Leather-wrapped steering wheel.

— Genuine leather upholstery.

— 8-way power-adjustable front seats with power lumbar support.

— Heated front seats.

— Sunroof.

— Stainless steel pedals.

Things get really annoying when the infotainment system of a car is not user-intuitive and sluggish. Do they still exist? Apparently yes, with the ILX and that too in a 2022 model year. So you will get a non-touchscreen 5-inch display at the top which is placed a bit inside which can hinder the driver’s visual when looked onto. On the higher trims, there is a touch-sensitive screen for controlling the HVAC. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are not available as standard. You will have loads of features with the Technology package like a navigation system with 3D and premium sound system along with real-time traffic information. A few of the features are as follows:

— Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

— Dual 5.0-inch screens.

— SiriusXM.

— 3D navigation system.

— Real-time traffic information.

— Bluetooth connectivity.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

As with other cars in this segment, the Acura ILX’s cabin is roomy for the driver and the front-seat passenger but cramped for those in the rear. Standard equipment is plentiful and includes a sunroof, heated sport seats with power adjustments for the driver, and dual-zone automatic climate control. However, the dashboard design looks outdated compared with the slick-looking screens that adorn the dash of the A-class. While its interior cubby storage is nowhere near as useful as inside the Civic, the ILX has a large trunk that belies the sedan’s subcompact classification.

The 2022 Acura ILX Has An Athletic Design

via acura.ca

The ILX has always been a good-looking car. With the aggressive and angular design, it has a hint of Lexus to it. Acura market the four doors as having an «athletic design,» an upmarket way of saying it looks sporty. This is certainly true; it looks sporty with plenty of visual accessory options on offer, which vary from glossy black trim to nicer wheels.

This design from the rear looks a little like the Hyundai i30 Fastback, which is pretty unsurprising as regulations force many car designs to work with similar designs, even more so if they are trying to avoid Germanic design principles as would be found on the compact Audi and BMW models. This sporty look doesn’t mean the car has major performance under the bonnet, though. All ILX models come with an in-line four-cylinder engine, albeit with a larger displacement of 2.4-liters.

This engine is less refined than the competition, returning just 24 mpg in the city. Previous ILX models had the option of a hybrid, but this is no longer offered. The ILX has been around for approaching a decade and there hasn’t been a Type S model; with the return of the Integra, it would be unlikely that a hotter ILX would make it to market.

The cabin heading into 2022 does now appear a little dated, sharing a lot of parts with the Honda Civic the Acura loses in interior quality when compared to German rivals. But there are a few notable larger issues. The car does not come with one large display as is common for premium vehicles now; instead of two displays, one on the dashboard and another in the center console; it makes a somewhat confusing infotainment system.

The gauge cluster is also a little behind the times; with a screen between the dials, it does provide the driver with more information than a conventional analog dashboard, but when competing with systems like Audi’s Virtual Cockpit, the ILX certainly begins to lose out. This is twofold; the interior has plenty of buttons and dials instead of more expensive touch displays.

But Acura vehicles do come with a plethora of mobile apps as well; through the Acura Link a user’s phone can be used as a key and control various elements to the car, find it when parked and check fuel levels; not exactly necessary, but some drivers might like it.

Report

Say goodbye to Acura’s current entry-level sedan, the 2023 Acura ILX. But don’t worry, he didn’t die in vain because his vacancy will soon be filled by the upcoming Integra 2023. As everyone expected, Acura is going back to how it was in the 90s with the Integra playing the role of the most affordable entry.

The 2023 Acura ILX made its debut in 2013 as the brand’s smallest sedan. It was based on the Civic platform at the time, but offered the budget-minded luxury buyer a high-end look and feel in contrast to its corporate cousin. However, almost 10 years later, it happened to the dodo bird.

Motor1 recently spoke with Acura representatives about the fate of the 2023 Acura ILX. Spokesman Chris Naughton reportedly told Motor1: “The 2022 model year is the final model year for the ILX, in anticipation of the new Integra.” He also added, “

The new Integra was developed from day one to deliver the original lineage that began with the Integra in 1986. It is a continuation of the formula that brought so many first-time buyers to the Acura family and will continue to do so. be a new entry point to the brand.”

While the 2023 Acura ILX did provide a cost-effective way to get into luxury vehicles, it didn’t really catch on for many years. In fact, according to Good Car Bad Car, Acura could barely sell nearly 20,000 ILXs annually from 2014 to 2021. Lexus, on the other hand, was able to sell more than double the number of IS sedans during that time, which is ILX’s main competitor.

Older car technology can be blamed as the 2023 Acura ILX is based on the ninth-generation Civic. In fact, the current 2021 iteration still uses the 2.4-liter engine found in the ninth-generation Civic Si compared to the turbocharged engines you’ll find in the current Civic. It’s worth bearing in mind that the Civic is currently in its 11th generation, so ILX will clearly have to catch up.

That obsolescence leaked into the car’s technology as the 2023 Acura ILX still uses a dual-screen infotainment setup that uses Acura’s older navigation system and dash design. It looked cool in 2015, but in 2022, it’s not going to fly. It used to also be available with a six-speed manual transmission, but Acura dropped it along the way.

Admittedly, it may take the general public to understand the all-new Integra. After all, we’ve only seen her in prototype form complete with a tacky yellow paint job and “Integra” stickers. But let’s take a break, it could be better than we all think.

From what we know so far, the Integra will offer the same turbocharged 1.5-liter engine that you can find in the current Civic, so it’s at least updated in that department. However, Acura hasn’t said whether the engine will have the same power output as the regular 2022 Civic or the new Civic Si. We hope it’s the latter, especially since the entry-level sedan will actually have an optional six-speed manual transmission.

For now, we’ll be devoting one to honor ILX. It was a good sedan while it lasted and could be a bargain on the used market in the future. Thank you Acura ILX, you are awesome.

2021 Acura ILX Engine

Like is pointed out previously, several safety features are going to be located on the brand new ILX. The brand new journey will usually come with steadiness and grip handle, top-seating part safety bags, antilock braking systems, area-curtain safety bags, and active front side brain restraints. Optionally available functions are available which include automated braking to get frontal accident mitigation, lane trying to keep support, a path leaving caution process, and more.

2021 Acura ILX Engine

The bottom kind of 2021 Acura ILX will likely be operated by way of a 2.4L several-tube engine. All the engine can do creating 201 horsepower and 180 weight-ft of torque. Along with it, typically the driver will probably be associated with an 8-10-rate automatic transmission because the sole communication offered.

Fuel Economy: Not the competition winning but is on par

VTEC engines are tuned for offering a good fuel economy and with the ILX it is doing well. The EPA rated the ILX with a good economy rating of 24/34/28 for city/highway/combined which is quite good. A decently sized 13.2-gallon gas tank can deliver around 370 miles combined which are good numbers for the long run.

The 2022 BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe delivers the same numbers as the ILX, and that would be the sole reason to consider a turbocharged vehicle, as it will consume less gas and juice out more raw power. The Mercedes-Benz A-Class can churn out a mile or two per gallon, more than the former cars.

2023 Acura ILX Review

While there’s been a lot of excitement surrounding the revival of the Integra nameplate, there’s been speculation about what will happen to Acura’s current base model sedan, the 2023 Acura ILX. Now Acura has confirmed in an interview with Motor1 that the ILX will finish production with the 2023 model year and be discontinued outright as a result of the inclusion of Integra.

Functionally for buyers, this means the latest offerings at the bottom of Acura’s line will be much fresher. The ILX currently offers a 2.4-liter naturally aspirated inline-four that comes from the same lineage as the ninth-generation Civic Si powerplant, which was a larger displacement version of the 2.0-liter K-series motor originally introduced in the Honda Civic S of 2011. 2001. In addition, the current ILX powerplant is exclusively paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The Integra, by comparison, will share a 1.5-liter turbocharged four with the new eleventh-generation Civic and is confirmed to offer a six-speed manual transmission. While no one has had the chance to drive the new Integra yet, our own Kristen Lee had the opportunity to test the new Civic Si with the same drivetrain and review it very well, so it’s reasonable to expect the Integra will provide a pleasant driving experience where the ILX doesn’t.

Despite the fresher platform that Integra is built on, we don’t expect much of a price hike over ILX’s current MSRP. The ILX’s base price comes in at $28,345, and while pricing isn’t confirmed for the Integra, Acura has confirmed it will be around $30,000.

Also, although the latest Integra loses nearly a liter of displacement over the current 2023 Acura ILX, the power is roughly the same, as the ILX is rated at 201 hp, and the 1.5-liter turbo-four already pushes out 200 hp in the latest model. Civil Si.
