Everything a driver needs is in front of them. The right gauge can be configured as a navigation screen.
Inside, you’ll find a cabin for two designed to comfort you while you pilot this massive machine. The bucket seats are firm but not unyielding. The flat-bottomed steering wheel is welcome, as is the clearly designed instrument cluster. No flashy graphics here to distract you from the business of driving.
Cast your gaze to the center console, and you’re greeted by four knobs to control the climate, but no infotainment screen to distract you from the business of driving. It’s welcome. After all, this cabin is filled with a mechanical symphony at speed; music isn’t necessary. That said, pack lightly. The front trunk is large enough to hold a briefcase at best.
Rimac Nevera Vs Bugatti Chiron Super Sport: An Overview
via netcarshow
The recent merger between Rimac and Bugatti has paved the path for the latter, which includes the likes of battery-assisted vehicles. This electrification will surely make the cars much faster, but it will not match the thrilling experience provided by an internal combustion engine. With 4 turbochargers powering a massive engine, the vehicle can produce 200 MPH in just 14.8 seconds, a number that once could not be computed. It is said that money cannot buy time, but it surely can buy a $3.8 million car, which can slow down time itself.
Founded in 2009 in a small city in Croatia, Rimac did not have a single employee until 2011. Ten years later, the company has made a car that beats Bugatti at their own speed game and has also bought a significant stake in the company. This is a statement of intent from this newly established manufacturer that has taken the hypercar world by storm with their electric vehicle, the Nevera. Although it is priced at a much more affordable $2.4 million, the car still packs a lot of punch due to its quad electric motor setup. The electric motor’s instant torque can propel the car from 0 to 60 MPH in just 1.9 seconds.
The Present, Perfected
As the industry collectively marches toward electrification, the Chiron as we know it is not long for this world. And like Piëch before him, Mate Rimac—another engineer turned auto exec—will lead an initiative that will modernize the Bugatti brand. It’s safe to assume that the Chiron’s successor will be even faster and more capable than this. In a vacuum, that seems impossible, given just how high the Super Sport sets the bar, but Rimac has already proven that it can be done.
Rumors suggest the new car will feature a powertrain that combines a hybrid system with a totally new, naturally aspirated internal combustion engine—a solution that could potentially provide a cocktail of what the Chiron and the Nevera have to offer today. But it also spells the end of the masterpiece that is the W16, a powerplant that was developed to showcase what was possible when the world’s greatest engineers were unencumbered by the constraints of cost and complexity. That development resulted in something that gave Bugatti’s hypercars not only world-beating performance, but also a wholly unique character.
While technology has moved into new territory in the time since, the numbers are becoming less and less meaningful as automotive performance continues its climb into the stratosphere. If Rimac hopes to create another automotive icon, it would be wise to prioritize the intangibles over the statistics.

2023 Bugatti Chiron : Interior
The exterior of the Chiron features a C-shaped design that is engraved on its side panels, and this item is also present inside the car cabinet. It is reflected in the beautiful curve that separates the driver from the passenger. Bugatti adorns the Chiron wardrobe with high-quality materials, and the interior contains age-old items that add to the stunning appeal. The low steering wheel greets the driver, and Bugatti says the glossy center console is made of a single piece of solid aluminum.

Chiron’s single focus on performance goes hand in hand with the info loosening of infotainment. This Bugatti works like a race car, and it has some refined technical content that should match. There is no infotainment screen, and features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities are not provided. Car infotainment services are limited to the audio system and travel computer. On the other hand, the sound system delivers excellent sound quality and incorporates four tweets that use a single carat diamond layer for precision rendering.
2023 Bugatti Chiron : Engine
All 2023 Chiron models are powered by an 8.0-liter 16-cylinder powerplant. The engine animal uses four turbochargers to produce 1500 horsepower and 1180 lb-ft of torque. Bugatti claims that the Chiron dash from zero to 60 mph in just 2.3 seconds, and has a top speed of 261 mph. The regular Chiron engine does not quench your thirst for speed, upgrading to the Chiron Super Sport 300+.
Chiron model is fitted with a more powerful version and produces 1578 power. Tested by factory testing driver Andy Wallace, a model with almost the same specs as the Chiron Super Sport 300+ included a record test track record of 304.773 mph. As one would expect from a car with a 1500-hp engine, the Chiron will not win any points for being eco-friendly. According to the EPA, the 2023 Chiron reaches 9 mpg and 14 mpg highway. Pur Sport sees both figures drop by 1 mpg.
2023 Bugatti Chiron : Safety
The Bugatti Chiron was repatriated to the US by what NHTSA said was a faulty side airbag heat protection. This memory affected only two Chiron cars. The manufacturer offers a four-year warranty covering all mechanical and electrical components. The Bugatti Chiron has not been crashed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The 2023 Bugatti Chiron is not provided with commonly used driver assistance features such as blind-spot monitoring, as well as an advanced adaptive control system.

Rimac Nevera Vs Bugatti Chiron SuperSport: The Powertrain
Bugatti
The 2022 Nevera is powered by four electric motors sitting on all corners of the vehicle. The cars on the front axle produced 295 HP, and the real electric motors produced 644 HP each. The combined power output of all the motors happens to be more than 1800 HP and gives a jaw-dropping figure of 1700 lb-ft of torque. The vehicle gets two gears, one for the front axle and one for the rear, which kick in at different times. The hypercar also has a 120-kilowatt hour battery, and a supercharger can charge the battery from 20 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes. Apart from this, it also features three generator braking due to its Brembo supplied 15.4-inch carbon-ceramic brakes, which charge the battery as the vehicle de-accelerates. While having a single turbocharger is a very common sight, even a twin-turbocharged engine seems very powerful for everyday usage.
On the other hand, Bugatti Chiron is no ordinary car as it uses a quad-turbocharged engine that produces an excess of 1500 HP. The 8-liter W16 engine is made entirely of an aluminum block along with port fuel injection. The vehicle’s output happens to be around 1200 lb-ft of torque, and due to the four turbochargers, the torque kicks in as early as 2200 RPM. The vehicle also uses a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and the power is sent to all four wheels as standard to give this vehicle high-speed stability as it charges towards a 273 MPH top speed.
Powertrain
The Chiron Super Sport has six exhaust outlets.
Nestled behind the driver, mounted mid-ship is an 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged 64-valve W-16 that produces a massive 1,578 horsepower and 1,180 pound-feet of torque fed to all four wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Bugatti also fits the car with several driving modes. Standard driving mode is EB mode, but there are Autobahn and Handling driving modes as well, the last one best suited for track use, as it lowers the car’s ride height. Thankfully, there’s also a Lift mode that raises the car’s ride height for traversing speed bumps and aggressively sloped driveways.
Specifications
The main carryover piece will be the 8 litre W16 quad-turbocharged engine, though it is heavily updated. The Chiron has 1,103 kW (1,479 bhp) of power and 1,600 N·m (1,180 lb·ft) of torque starting from 2000 rpm. Like its predecessor, the Veyron, it has a carbon fibre body structure, independent suspension and AWD system.
The Chiron will accelerate from 0–100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.4 seconds according to the manufacturer, 0–200 km/h (124 mph) in under 6.5 seconds and 0–300 km/h (186 mph) in under 13.6 seconds. The Chiron’s top speed is electronically limited to 420 km/h (261 mph) for safety reasons. The anticipated full top speed of the Bugatti Chiron is believed to be around 463 km/h (288 mph). Its predecessor (the Bugatti Veyron SS) makes almost 300 less bhp than the new Chiron, and although the Chiron’s limiter gets it only to 261 mph the speedometer gets up to 310 mph. Without the limiter the Chiron is a virtual rocket, going at a top speed of 464 km/h (288 mph), making it the fastest production car in the world.
At full speed the 100 liter fuel tank would be empty in 8 minutes, that is 190 l/100 km or 4.5 kg CO2/km.
500 units are to be produced and 200 orders have already been placed. The Chiron will be available towards the end of 2016 with a cost of €2.4 million (circa £1,900,000, or US$2,660,000).
Behind the Wheel
About a week before I drove the Super Sport, I was given the opportunity to drive the aforementioned Rimac Nevera. Outfitted with four 450-kW motors and a 120-kWh battery that together offer 1,914 hp, along with a sophisticated torque management system that ensures that all of the power gets put to good use, it’s capable of running through the quarter mile in less than 8.6 seconds. That makes the Nevera the fastest-accelerating production car ever built, and let me tell you folks, it feels like it. It is unquestionably quicker than any Chiron I’ve driven which, up until that day, was unquestionably quicker than anything else I’d ever driven.
It’s a legitimately stunning achievement, and it convinced me that EV technology inarguably has a place in the future of high-performance motoring. But while the Nevera is obscenely quick, the experience can feel like you’re asking a supercomputer to run Pong. It’s almost anticlimactic because of what a non-event it all is.
Dropping the hammer in the Chiron Super Sport, meanwhile, feels like you’ve asked it to realign the solar system. The car bucks as the gearbox downshifts, the turbos hiss and whoosh behind your head as they come to life, and the W16 lets out a baritone bellow that you can feel in your bones as you’re pressed into the seat. You can tell that it takes a symphony of mechanical processes in order to generate this kind of thrust with an internal combustion engine, and you get to be the conductor.
It feels alive, and that’s due in part because it’s inherently imperfect. The world around you starts to vibrate and blur as you lay into the throttle, and each time you do it, everything happens in a slightly different way. The Chiron Super Sport is unflappably stable regardless of pace, of course, but you’re always very much aware of just how fast you’re going because there’s so much involved in making that speed happen. Even when there’s an occasional hiccup, there’s this sense of mechanical sympathy; you understand what you did to annoy the car. It’s that imperfection that gives automobiles a human-like charm, in turn creating an emotional connection that convinces us to do things like give them pet names—something we’d never consider doing with, say, a laptop or a smartphone.
I spent a solid portion of my seat time trudging along in mid-day Malibu traffic on the Pacific Coast Highway, which the Bugatti dutifully tolerated without protest. When not driven in anger, the Chiron Super Sport can be a surprisingly comfortable place to lay down the miles, offering more relaxed road manners and better ride quality than the Pur Sport without feeling lazy or detached. Still, a brief jaunt into the hills provided a stark reminder of just how capable the Chiron is.
Beyond all the aural and visual drama is a car with a stiff carbon chassis, tons of grip, and a 16-cylinder atom bomb waiting to go off—a combination that allows it to effectively hide its 4,600-pound curb weight regardless of whether you’re pointed in a straight line or weaving through the canyons. Even if the Chiron is no longer the king of the mountain when it comes to power and acceleration, it will definitely still reset your perception of automotive performance at a moment’s notice.
Records
At the 2017 IAA show in Frankfurt, Bugatti announced that the Chiron broke the record of fastest 0–400–0 km/h (0–249–0 mph), completing it in 41.96 seconds in a span of 3.2 kilometres (2 miles) at the Ehra-Lessienhigh-speed oval. The car was driven by Colombian racing driver Juan Pablo Montoya.
Bugatti also added extra livery to the Chiron that they used to confirm that it was the same car that broke 0–400–0 km/h the fastest. During the show, Bugatti also mentioned that during the run, the car went 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) in 2.4 seconds, 0–200 km/h (0–124 mph) in 6.1 seconds, 0–300 km/h (0–186 mph) in 13.1 seconds, and 0–400 km/h (0–248.5 mph) in 32.6 seconds, which altogether, also makes the Chiron much faster than its predecessor, the Bugatti Veyron.

On August 30, 2018, LEGO unveiled a working life-size 1:1 scale model of the Chiron. It was constructed almost entirely with LEGO Technic elements (339 unique types, over 1,000,000 pieces in total) with exceptions for the Bugatti badge, the wheels, a steel frame, a steel roll cage, a steel drive chain and the seat belts. The engine was created with the 2,304 of the same LEGO’s Power Functions motors found in standard models; it was estimated to produce 5.3 hp and 92 Nm of torque. The car was test driven by Andy Wallace, Bugatti’s official test driver, at Volkswagen’s Ehra Lessien test track.
The Super Sport Formula
The Chiron has always been more about hypersonic grand touring than hard-edged corner carving, but whereas the Chiron Pur Sport tipped the scales toward the latter, the Super Sport’s tuning leans in the opposite direction. Although it’s not quite as fast as the stripped-out, ultra-limited-production Chiron Super Sport 300+, the Super Sport’s performance is focused on attaining maximum velocity above all else, and that means a more streamlined, longtail-style aerodynamic package when compared to the Pur Sport.
Gone is the Pur Sport’s big rear wing, which added a significant amount of downforce for more mechanical grip at circuit speeds, but also the substantial aerodynamic drag that played a key role in the Pur Sport’s top speed of “just” 217 mph. Along with the nine air holes on each front fender, which serve as an aesthetic nod to the EB 110 Super Sport while also reducing high-speed lift, the Chiron Super Sport features a reworked rear diffuser design that’s aimed at providing enough downforce at high speeds to keep the car stable without creating unnecessary drag that would hold the car back on the top end.
The new diffuser design also necessitated a new exhaust layout. Previous Chiron models have employed a center-mounted design, but the Super Sport gets a pair of dual pipes that are spread out and vertically aligned, along with another pair of downfacing pipes that are hidden further back, which exit through cutouts in the diffuser. The changes that give the rear end of the Super Sport a distinctive look also create a deeper and richer exhaust note.
In keeping with the luxury cruise missile theme, the Super Sport also scores cushier sport seats and softer suspension tuning than the Pur Sport, and the negative camber has been dialed back from the Pur Sport’s racecar-like 2.5 degrees in order to promote high-speed stability and better road manners rather than outright handling response. The Super Sport also gets less aggressive gearing to optimize the powertrain for top-speed runs, but new turbochargers and a few engine tweaks give the Super Sport a 100-hp advantage over the Pur Sport, so the difference in acceleration below triple-digit speeds is ultimately negligible.
Wrap Up
The Chiron Super Sport’s art deco curve recalls Bugattis of the 1930s.
That the 2022 Bugatti Chiron Super Sport is a rarified beast is beyond question. That its abilities are among the best you can buy is expected given its price, and also beyond question.
Starting at $3.8 million, with our test car coming in at $4.3 million, its list of $476,450 worth of options is enough to buy a 2022 Lamborghini Huracán STO. And even the richest among us will have difficulty finding space where its full horsepower can be legally unleashed.
Then again, most will end up in collections undriven. They be held as investments, garage art meant to appreciate and be appreciate before being sold. That so few will truly get driven is a shame.
It’s like a child’s toy that’s never been played with. Sad.
Bugatti Veyron
